1) Message boards : Number crunching : How to change donation "anonymous" status? (Message 1908333)

Post:
In my account there's a line that says "Donations Anonymous: Yes" then "click here to change". When clicked that takes you to a page with the individual donations. These are unchecked which doesn't really make sense so I check the box and the "update" button. But nothing changes. How do I change the Anonymous:Yes status to "Anonymous No"?

I'm running boinc & seti@home on a Raspberry Pi. Works great but I can only get 2 of the 4 cores processing WU's. On my Android tablet there was an option in the app to run 2 cores or 4, I don't see the equivalent in the Pi interface. I have computing preferences set to not limit cores or processor %, but it still only runs 2 wu's on 2 of the cores.

Thanks Astro (ranks rastro?)
You were 100% correct. My duaration_correction_factor was 83446.321844!
As soon as I restarted the client, the To Completion times look correct, and it downloaded a bunch of WU's. Many thanks.

One of my machines has been showing "To Completion" times in the range of about 600,000 - 1,000,000 hours, even though the computer typically completes workunits in about 2 hours (dual core AMD FX-60). I can't get it to correct, tried re-starting and "update" and CPU benchmarks. Its been doing this for a week. The machine won't cache any workunits even though preferences say 5 days worth, I assume because it "thinks" that each workunit will take over 5 days. When it completes work, it downloads a new workunit, but there are never more than 2 workunits (dual core). Any recomendations on how to get this fixed?

Thanks John but I don't think I understand all of your message. I am running the "standard" enhanced Boink software with the crunch3r optimized s@h clients. I understood that the optimized s@h clients would result in higher RAC since they take advantage of cpu sse, sse2, sse3 instructions more than the standard s@h client, but only 20% order of magnitude. I replaced the app_info.xml file with a new one when I installed the optimized clients. With these clairifications, would you still recommend that I revert to the standard clients?

My caches of work do not seem to be diminishing at all, its just that certain machines only get a couple of workunits, while the others get dozens (I have general setting at 5 days I believe). Is there a way to get a machine that is only cacheing a couple WU's to grab more (like 5 days worth)?

I don't understand work reporating causes 2) and 3) in your list, but I know that with the previous versions of boinc/S@H all my computers would report after completing one or two workunits at the most. Now, some of them will have not reported work even when sitting there with ~ 15 completed WU's. Whatever of the reasons that these machines used to report more frequently, they are not doing so now. Can this reporting behavior be changed? Thanks.

I have to agree with dasy2k1. Boinc/Seti plays nice with most of my work applications, but there are a couple of them that will not run when Boinc/Seti is active. Specifically apps that involve drive scanning and file copying seem to have problems sharing CPU cycles, even with tweaks to priorities. When I run these apps, I have to exit the client and re-start when finished.

Since I switched to the enhanced clients a week or so ago, I've noticed that a number of my machines seem to be holding completed work much longer than with the previous client. Now when I look at these machines, they will often have > 24 hours of completed work that has not been reported. Is there any setting adjustment for this? Also, I have a couple of machines that are only cacheing one or two workunits. The other machines are cacheing 4-5 days worth per my general settings. Is there a way to get the low cache machines to grab more work? My overall RAC is down over 20% with the enhanced client and still falling. Guess I don't understand why the powers that be felt it was necesary to mess with the scoring system. I have read about how the new client has more optimization in it, and I am using crunch3r's optimized clients, but why does the net effect on RAC have to be 25% less than before? To drive us to other BOINC projects?

It seems all my machines are unable to get new work. I am running optomized clients that don't automatically update to the enhanced client. Am I SOL now and forced to go with the un-optomized "enhanced" version?

Another question about what seems to be quirky client behavior. Often my computers have completed work sitting there with status "Uploading" but nothing is happening. When I look at the transfer tab, it shows "retry in 3:45:03" or some such thing, and if I click "retry Now" nothing happens except it changes the "retry in 5:45:34" or whatever. I look at server status and it shows all the servers up and running. Why didn't these results upload when they first completed, and why don't they upload when I "retry now!". I can't imagine that uploading results consumes so much bandwith that it has to be so restricted and kluged. I have the client set to "return results immediately" already, and sometimes that actually works. I monitor the results pages to make sure all the computers are OK and crunching. When this happens I assume they are crashed, but often this is not the case.

Seems to be working fine again now. Nothing that I did in particular, looked at it yesterday morning and it had fresh work and was once again crunching away. One of the other boxes crashed and lost track of its cached work too, but a chkdsk repaired the files because when rebooted after chkdsk /f all the work showed including the units that were in-process.

Thanks for the input. Definately doesn't have to do with hitting "update" too much, its been running overnight with no intervention on my part, and its still not getting any new work. Messages say HTML error. Don't think its server related because my other machines are crunching away just fine. Interesting comment about the anti-virus as the crash seems to have borked my AVG anti-virus as well. I'm not sure what the heck is going on w/ S@H, maybe I'll try a reset and see if it gets going again.

My computer crashed and now it shows no work units ready to run, even though there are (and were) plenty of them before the crash. Is there any way to get the client to "see" these workunits that are sitting right there on the hard drive? It seems Berkely won't let me download any more for some reason (last download too recent?).

When I check clients, they often have completed workunits sitting there that have not been uploaded. This is during periods when the servers are all showing OK status. They seem to upload eventually, just not necessarily when they are first completed. Is there a setting I'm missing, or anyone else seeing this?

Thanks mmciastro. I was able to get rid of several of them. In my case some of the "inactive" hosts were ones that I had re-installed BOINC on for various reasons. When I re-installed, the system decided they were "new" hosts, and I wasn't able to MERGE to the new host.....at least when I picked MERGE I didn't get a pickbox for the new host.

Speaking of which.....if I "upgrade" to the current version 5.2 or whatever of the BOINC software, am I going to get a bunch of orphaned/new hosts? I assume you just use the built in installer and install on top of the existing application.
