i'm for have the option to have hidden hosts, if i make a major mistake and end up blowing up a huge queue of wu's (don't turn off the confirmation for detach hosts on boincview =/) at least i can keep my stupidity to myself as opposed to someone tracing a host that dumped 60 wu's back to me.

All of mine go through the same firewall, all can connect to the internet, I just have 3 that will not talk to Seti properly, but will talk fine to Einstien.

Thats what doesn't make sense to me either, the two problem PC's have been connected to pirates and einstein and working fine till the last two days.

I used to get an occasional error 500 on one of them but that would pass by the next time it tried to contact the scheduler.

As well as these PCs working fine through the firewall with other projects i have 5 other PC's that go through the same firewall same projects but no errors at all. Just read about the firewall causing problems in another thread and changed the gateway on these PC's to bypass the firewall filters and now they're happy.

Something very odd is going on =/

BOINC normally works through the firewall, i just bypassed the firewall completely and everything started working.

Not sure how related this is but i've been getting the 500 error on two machines attached to boincsimap. They were failing when trying to upload the results.

I got a little desperate when i had 30+ results to return and decided to go rooting through the BOINC directory to see if i could see any problems.

First i noticed "master_boinc.bio.wzw.tum.de_boincsimap.xml" was incorrectly formatted on one machine and blank on the other, so i copied over the file from a working machine.

I then noticed "sched_request_boinc.bio.wzw.tum.de_boincsimap.xml" was also blank on both machines, this file i just deleted.

I told both machines to update and they uploaded all my finished work units and are both updating / contacting the server happily now.

As i said this was on Boincsimap but i'm curious as to wether this may help with problems people are having on SETI.

Edit: *sigh* to good to be true one of them just went down again =/

Running trux's client with no problems to report. I prefer the seperate prefs.xml idea, much better to keep me out of things i can break =).

The priority projects option is a good enough reason for the client on its own let alone the calibration system.

Neil, here's how to get you sig to work:

[ url=http://www.boincsynergy.com][ img]http://www.boincsynergy.com/images/stats/comb-950.jpg[/img] When you type it in leave out the spaces in the part [ url....] and [ img....]. I put the spaces in so the code would display. This will be the result:

Hope it helps.... >:-) (-:
I believe that the bottom line should be this:

I'm not going to allow MY PC to do all the work so that someone else can make money without reimbursing me for my work. If they're going to make money on my work, and not pay me for my work, screw 'em....

The more I read this discussion, the more I dislike "shaft". They would be giving us all the "shaft" for crunching whatever WUs they send to us. I believe that the word should be spread to ALL BOINC communities.... >:-| |-:

Any Ideas?

Validation@Home

Probably not sexy enough for a new project though =/

The reason your machine doesn't show up under your name when you click there via the host id number is that you have chosen to hide your hosts. If you want to change that do this:
- goto your account settings
- select "View or edit SETI@home preferences"
- edit your prefernces so:

"Should SETI@home show your computers on its web site?" = yes

Edit: this will allow people to see which computers belong to you, but it won't let them see the I/P address etc, just the basic information you see for everyone else's.

found this line :

rsc_disk_bound 500000.000000 /rsc_disk_bound

in the sched_reply_setiathome.berkeley.edu.xml on my machine

and found this on the BOINC Site:

rsc_disk_bound: A bound on the maximum disk space used by the application, including all input, temporary, and output files. The workunit will only be sent to hosts with at least this much available disk space. If this bound is exceeded, the application will be aborted.

From the technical news ( sorry if this has already been posted )

July 13, 2005 - 22:00 UTC
Around noon today the master science database server rebooted itself due to a fatal memory upset. This may have been caused by a kernel bug (as evidenced by certain signatures in the logs), and we are currently applying a patch that may prevent this from happening again. We already did some initial checking of the database and found that it survived the reboot, but once the machine is patched we have to do more robust checking of the tables before we can restart the splitters and the assimilator.
