1) Questions and Answers : Getting started : Sorry, this time in German... Bitte auf deutsch!!!! (Message 139688)

Hi,

Hi,
the account number is _not_ the 32bit account ID. It is the number you see at the bottom of "Your account" beside "Account number Used in URLs".

Hi,
oops, sorry. Messed up adding pictures within the profile with pictures added to the signature.
I have not created a profile so I can just give some guesses: Did the filename appear in the dialog box? Is it smaller than 50 kB and of type jpg/png?

[edit] Just tried myself; the picture is indeed disappearing. It does not matter if you use a local file or a link to a picture located on a http-server. Looking at the profile again the filename has disappeared from the dialog-box. Seems to be a feature not working... at least I don't see a picture when looking at my profile.

Hi,
no it's not your fault. Seti boinc is providing no work most of the time; either it is down or it is up but no work nevertheless. Just wait and try again or crunch for something else (http://predictor.scripps.edu/ although they have been down for some time too and may be not accepting new accounts for some time).

Hi,
sorry, no solution. Just wanted to tell you that you are not alone. I have similar experiences although changing messages (the notorious "no work from project" of course, "no schedulers responded"; the reason for these messages is known and has been mentioned often) but last Friday I had the "master file fetch failed" the whole time. I have shut down boinc for the weekend and hope for better luck on Monday ;-)...

Hi,
one more idea: Try adding something else (ordinary text) to your signature to see if the text appears. If it doesn't it's not the fault of the picture URL...

Hi,
which URL vom mundayweb.com did you paste? Have you tried to call the URL directly? I have to use the URL with transparency set to off to see anything (setting the transparency with the settings to off is _not_ sufficient for me).

11) Questions and Answers : Windows : Runtime Exception 108 with boinc 3.20 (Message 10617)
Posted 21 Jul 2004 by Profile Pegasus
Post:
Hi,
I am running boinc with seti and predictor (low priority but with seti handing out no work most of the time...). Yesterday I updated boinc to 3.20 because predictor asked to do so. Since then I am getting an error when starting boinc:

Boinc Runtime Exception 108 - File Operation Failure
Failed to reopen stdout for diagnostics redirection (overwrite)
Filename: '\Boincsrc\Main\boinc_public\lib\diagnostics.C'
Line: '96'

Boinc seems to be working ok. How can I get rid of this error?

[Edit] I just fund another posting here regarding insufficient access rights. It is no question of sufficient rights. Everybody has full access to the boinc directory and the files within. There are files stdout.txt and stderr.txt which contain messages from the running boinc and can obviously be written without problems.

Hi,
for the moment you will not be able to do as you want by using boinc_cli alone. Perhaps you might be successful with apptoservice from basta.com which I used for seti running as a service (and with apptoservice you can give all parameters you want as long as the program is honoring them). I didn't try with boinc yet because there is no sense for me as long as it seems to be impossible to get work units. When the work units might flow sometimes in the future ;-) I might be interested in running boinc as a service though...

14) Questions and Answers : Windows : BOINC = no credit ? (Message 9901)

Hi,

I am not sure if this answer corresponds to the question. I think the credit with boinc is independent of the classic WUs. The classic WUs are mentioned in your account but not credited with boinc. At least it is for me. I joined boinc with my old account with no problems (except getting no work :-(...), the classic WUs are mentioned in my account but (of course) no credit as long as there is no work done with boinc.

15) Questions and Answers : Windows : I do not get any Work for boinc client (Message 4920)
Posted 7 Jul 2004 by Profile Pegasus
Post:
Hi,
there are only two things you can do:
1. Wait
2. Assign ressources to another boinc project like predictor for the time being.

Many other people have the same problem; seti is unable to give (enough) work away. There are lots of messages about this topic here ;-)...

May be. But answers like these are completely useless. At least when given in a board named "getting started"...

As I have read e. g. in number crunching there are some problems with boinc working at multiple projects. I have not found a real answer but it seems that boinc will work only one project at a time which might leed to only work at predictor for the moment where seti will not provide any work. When getting to the low water mark it will try to get work from seti too. I may be wrong but this is what the comments sounded for me.

Bye
Peter

P.S. You might detach from predictor and then you will see boinc requesting work from seti (but not getting any as far as I can see). Then you can attach with seti again.

Hi,
hmmm... it was quite clear the messages appearing to be normal. But what about the messages missing? Yesterday I got repeated "deferring communication" and "no work available" which are normal messages as well but are now missing. Today there is no sign of the client even requesting work (getting work is another topic). The messages posted are the only ones the client shows...

Hi,
I have read all the messages about "no work" and thus knew to be patient after installing boinc when I got the same messages. But restarting boinc today I don't even get "no work" messages. It seems the client doesn't even try to get work although getting contact to seti. After some time I used "update" and as the log shows the update request was sent and honored but nothing about work!? I have not changed my prefs and don't know what is going wrong.

SETI@home - 2004-07-02 14:54:56 - Project prefs: no separate prefs for home; using your defaults

Meanwhile I have attached to predictor where everything is working now (got work, work is being crunched etc.). When attaching to predictor I gave predictor a score of 10 whereas seti has 90; nothing changed regarding seti...
Any ideas what is going wrong?
