Exiting the boinc manager won't necessarily close the seti client, maybe that had something to do with it?

Edit:

in client_state.xml, remove everything after the <project></project> tags.
See if that works.

You might leave the <app></app> block in, and just change the filename values to the client version you want.

I haven't had much experience with Ubuntu, never having used it personally, but with a few of my friends, I've fixed most of their edgy-related problems by compiling a new kernel.

Might want to give that a go. http://www.kernel.org

huh that's weird, I guess try shutting boinc down and deleting setiathome_5.15_windows_intelx86.exe, which will force boinc to redownload it when you start up again.

An update. Installed PCLOS 2700 RC1. Running on both barrels now! Yesterday tried to d/l new wu's but got a 'server found but not ready' message. That isn't the correct words but I notice other people reporting the same problem. No probs on my window machine. Boinc tried all night to d/l. It was mentioned that closing boinc and restarting would allow the downloads to start. Did that and Boinc said that it was not attched to any projects!!! I dunno. Reattached and now have a full cache. Any idea why boinc forgot that it was already attached? Running boinc as user not root. Thanks..john

Well, they have been messing around with new network stuff recently, so it may have had something to do with that. Otherwise, killing the process indirectly may have caused it not to save.

Wow, what an ordeal that was!! I figured out what the problem was. I ran many hardware tests after your hardware problem suggestion, but I found no errors on anything. I tried memtest86+, prime95, pifast, all kinds of torture tests and temperature tests. None of this indicated any hardware problems. Then I thought, hmm, I'm using XGL, I wonder if that's what is causing it. Because sometimes XGL causes artifacts on screen, it is possible that it causes artifacts in the CPU. Upon un-installing XGL and using the ubuntu compiled/optimized client, all of my WUs have completed successfully and I was granted full claimed credit.

Thank you for your time and consideration,

Sean Welton

Huh, maybe something's wonky with your video card then. I don't know how that could possibly affect your WU turnins, but crazier things have been known to happen.

This problem ended up being much much deeper than XGL. I was running Edgy eft, and was noticing that NOTHING was stable. Not even mplayer or such. So I installed dapper on another partition, and now my RAC is up to about 75. Thanks for the help though.

I haven't used Ubuntu myself, but I have had to help a couple of friends with it (edgy) recently, especially with getting sound working. It seems to me to be kernel related. If you can do it, compile yourself a new 2.6.20 kernel from kernel.org

Make sure your linux box is set up to access a nameserver. If it's not, hostnames will not resolve.

You can find the hostname information on the 'status' page of your router's web interface.
