My main rig's CPU hasn't run out of tasks yet! But I see it's struggling to upload results.....
2nd rig grabbed a few CPU & GPU WUs over the last ~24hrs, but has long since run out. I'm going to shut it down.

Lol! :D

So is the consensus just general server problems which aren't being addressed, rather than a purposeful wind down?
The database server is out of RAM and running in snail mode and the splitters are being heavily throttled in an attempt to reduce the size of the database so it could recover.

Ok, thanks :) (not that I can remember what the splitters do :o, ........oh wait, do they split up the large data blocks from the observatory(ies?) to the smaller chunks we crunch?

Surely this from their hibernation announcement answers the question?

On March 31, the volunteer computing part of SETI@home will stop distributing work and will go into hibernation.

Seems to me they'll just turn off the taps on new WUs & let the system run dry of it's own accord, unless they add further posts to the contrary!

I seem to be having the opposite problem to most, so far my faster rig hasn't run out of WUs (got some some at ~11.30, 14.30 & 15.30), but the cache is dwindling.
My 2nd rig's CPU ran out of WUs yesterday, bar 1 AP WU which is going to take over a day!! It's GPU was getting WUs sporadically but is now out.

So is the consensus just general server problems which aren't being addressed, rather than a purposeful wind down?

Fired up my 2nd rig for this ;) [edit] Sig is out of date, my i7 is now my 2nd rig.

But it seems they've already run out of WUs?
Is this due to server problems or have they shut off the tap early?

I've been crunching SETI since Oct'99 (on & off), sad to see SETI@H go, but I hope they find something amongst the analysed results & then have an area of a specific star system to focus on with new data to crunch! :)

Happy Anniversary! On this date in 1999, SETI@home came online. Since then millions of our volunteers have helped us sift through petabytes of data from multiple radio telescopes. ET still hasn't shown up to the party.

We're not discouraged. We're able to examine less than a tenth of a percent of the radio spectrum, over only 1/3 of the sky and a limited number of additional stars. But our capabilities are increasing every day. In 1999 it took up to a week to process a single workunit on a home PC. Now, on a machine with a GPU, it might only take a few minutes to do a far more detailed and more sensitive analysis. Who knows what the next 20 years will bring?

Happy Anniversary! :)
Mine's up in October.

But I'm sure my Celeron 366@550 did WUs much quicker than a week! I wonder if I have my old SETI logs...... yep, most WUs took between 10-11hrs on v1.06.
I've no idea how fast my current CPU does them in!

Yea I know but it's a right pain looking at dozen+ like that.

you could use some script parsing client_state.xml file instead.

Yea I guess, if I knew how ;)

Ah, thought it would be something that simple, lol, I couldn't remember what AR was really! ;)

Btw, is the 'anonymous platform' just what the optimised app gets called? If so how come the earlier WUs it did (some of which I pasted above) didn't get labelled that?

And I think the std app results have gone now too.

Interesting that the average AR hasn't changed much in years, I remember the SETI classic benchmark WU was 0.417 ;).

Ok thx, what a PITA! ;)
Nothing like old SETISpy to show ARs then? :(

And for some reason my stats are now showing 'anonymous platform' for both CPU & GPU....

Ok, thx guys, interesting.......

A few questions, what is the 'x' option? what do you mean by a smaller stripe? And what's GCC? ;)

Incidentally the FSB is quite high on my rig at 424 MHz, so it shouldn't be too much of a bottle neck, although it will be far more loaded than on a dual core rig of course.

Just a reminder.

To be sure how fast the optimized apps is on your host you need to compare WU with similar AR for MB or blank for AP.

I'm comparing WUs of similar credit, I thought this related to AR but my 1st check of 2 similar credit WUs show they're different :(, damn!
Is their a quicker way of checking AR without going into the task details of every WU I want to check?

Btw I didn't use any AP WUs in my comparisons.

Ah ok thx, I did say in my 2nd post that I wouldn't be installing the optimised apps until I've got ~12 results from my 5850 (which I haven't got yet, 3 pending so far), I guessed they missed that ;).

The apps I had were the original ones from SETI when I had Cat 13.1 installed.
Hence saying they were SETI files (which they were :P).

Ah ok, well the 'cypress_xx_r1831' files have all returned, as has the v7 file, I can see no differences in the file name (old ones in recyc bin atm), yet the deletion worked!
Could the files be different versions with identical names??

Yes of course.

I suggest to use the installer since more recent apps are more mature.

Which installer? I've already got the most recent none beta version of BOINC....

Oh & I agree that new binaries should be installed when the driver's changed, what a PITA! :P

Oh I thought the binaries & .bin files were 2 different things, I see what you mean now ;). I did say I didn't know what the binaries were.

What do you mean by clusters? clusters of what?
What are you referring to when you say old & new apps? (I haven't installed the optimised apps yet).

Thx for your help so far btw :)

Oh & it seems to of fixed it, no more driver lock ups :)

What are binaries & where are they? (I've just deleted the C:/AMD 13.1 folder).

..... and now deleted those SETI files, although the v6 file wasn't there.

Btw why would I need to delete the SETI files?
