BOINC Optimized app
(Message 404402)
Posted 23 Aug 2006 by Derek Tweedie Post: It does a time test, and on some machines (AMD mostly) the SSE2 instruction set is actually faster than the SSE3 instruction set. Not all SSE3 instructions sets are built the same. Hi So what one should I use with my Intel E6600? |

Optimized Seti Clients
(Message 280904)
Posted 13 Apr 2006 by Derek Tweedie Post: I have several computer (Xp1900 2600 A64 3200 3700 and Pentium M 770) I am having major problems as to which optimize client and application to use for each computer. can someone tell me where I can get the correct optimized app and client for each of the computers? I have just downloaded several different types (I ran cpuid to determine the specs of each processor). Now with my Pentium M 770 it said sse2 so I got the correct app, but then discoverd different websites with different apps all saying sse 2, I am now confused as to which one I should get. I was running about 35 mins for each unit, I then discoverd a website that said dowload this for optimized Pentium M app and client, now my Pent M takes over 2 hours to do a workunit. which website should I use for the best app and client? Thanks in advance |

Optimized Clients
(Message 253890)
Posted 26 Feb 2006 by Derek Tweedie Post: I have an XP 2200+ which takes 3 hours with optimized clients from Tetsuji Maverick Rai. It also takes 3 hours with Cruncher's Cache optimized client (Before using optimized clients it took around 4 hours). So it is not too surprising that your XP still takes hours, it does not get much faster with cache optimization. Hi, Thanks for the reply, I have cool n quiet turned off in the bios. The Athlon 3500 is taking 2 hrs and 35 mins to do a typical work unit. Any ideas? I have installed the SSE3 seti software as my athlon is the venice core which has SSE3 support. Cheers Derek |

(Message 253327)
Posted 25 Feb 2006 by Derek Tweedie Post: I have just installed the optimized clients for all my PC's (running XP Pro) My Pentium m now turns around a unit in about 35 mins (it use to take about 2 hours on the standard seti client software) however, my A64s and XP processors still take hours to do a work unit, noting that my A64 3500 is quite a bit faster than the Pentium 4 M processor I have. Can anyone recommend a better optimized client for the AMD chips? |

Credit for work units
(Message 252168)
Posted 22 Feb 2006 by Derek Tweedie Post: You are running the optimized BOINC client, which asks for more credit, based on the way the crunching happens. You are NOT running the optimized SETI client, which after you change to, you will get the credit you are looking for, and crunch a lot faster. ok I have found the optimized seti client, at the moment in my seti folder in BOINC there is version 4.18 the optimized seti client is 4.11 so do I just rename the 4.18 to 4.11 and re-start BOINC? |

I have been looking at other users and some seem to get 90% or more for their units, I am running BOINC seti with 5 PC's and I have installed the optimized clients on each PC. Thanks in advance |

Posted 3 Aug 2005 by Derek Tweedie Post: Perhaps this guy is using an optimized CC. Even if it was optimized surely you could never get the CPU to perform as much as his states? I have another Seti client and it is a authentic AMD, its stats are: MFPS 1116.08 million ops/sec MIS 2006.87 million ops/sec Thats a 1.33Ghz AMD the only one faster than that is the 1.4 |

Misleading Stats
(Message 146420)
Posted 3 Aug 2005 by Derek Tweedie Post: I was just browsing throught the stats on vairous peoples computers and I have noticed the number of PC's that are faster than mine for FPU's and Measured integer speeds. This is to be expected though, but I noticed the following: I have a Athlon 64 3500 and BIONIC rates my pc as the following: Measured floating point speed 1869.85 million ops/sec Measured integer speed 3769.7 million ops/sec I looked at a different user and he had the following: Authentic Athlon (not xp or 64) Measured floating point speed 1914.96 million ops/sec Measured integer speed 3253.12 million ops/sec I fail to see even if the guys PC is overclocked it should be no way near the speed of the A64 3500. Can someone explain this for me? Thanks |
