Just got my daily email from Tiger Direct this morning; they have a Galaxy GTX 460 768MB GDDR5 for only $89.99 (after two rebates). You can buy up to two of them with the rebates.

Lol, I ordered 2 yesterday on this same deal as I couldn't pass it up. Had a $10 coupon also that covered the shipping cost and no sales tax for my state. Yeah!

Have seen comments in various threads re: GTX 460 & number of WUs in parallel for best production.

Any consensus if 2 or 3 is ideal on cards w/ 768MB memory?

Nice prices...that should boost your rac nicely...

Apple is the object of my ire as well...the iPad has irked me to no end.

Yeah, pretty excited to build this one. It has 2 slots for graphics cards, so will put in my gtx-260s to start, and upgrade to Fermi cards little later.

re: Apple, am disgusted w/ business tactics, product and over-all lack of anything "really" new/innovative since iPhone. Have seen/played w/ iPad. Can't figure out WHY I need it, and why in the world I would pay $500.00, MORE than a netbook or even entry laptops, for a larger iPod Touch?!? Truly, they are the BEST marketing company in the world.

In the past, I've been pretty critical of AMD's execution over the past few years. Of course, I was equally critical of Intel during "Netbust" era and Apple is currently the object of my ire. However, I have, and/or do own products from all the companies.

Lately, I've been considering an upgrade and have been agonizing a bit as to *how much* to sink into it. Also was being tempted to wait until 32nm quad cores are intro'd as I want to have at least 4 cores, and ideally 8 via HT.

However, I became motivated to pull the trigger today :>)

AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Thuban 2.8GHz + MSI 870A-G54 AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0

$289.00 total for both!

I was equally impressed w/ component quality & OC features of the MB. Very pleased at the $$$/performance ratio and overall, a nice *sweet* spot for a pretty nominal investment.

If AMD can keep finding these *value* holes and do so profitably, they can win some battles.

That Supermicro looks pretty good.
You can also put a full size graphics card on that, likely up to @ 9.5" aka a Sugo SG-05 or SG-06.

Zotac has one coming as well w/ Ion 2 integrated & a full size graphics card slot in pcie2 x16.

That's the one I'm waiting for and will replace my son's older (large, power hungry & disposable) desktop that he uses for mostly kids stuff and watching Sesame Street etc.

Unlikely to get 193 world leaders to EVER agree for the same thing if having to "pay", even if faced w/ certain extinction of human race in a VERY short period i.e. astroid strike, containment of the "perfect" virus, whatever.

IMO, we're far too petty a species and always revert to self-interest, even if it means our own collective demise.

Woke-up this AM. Yep, still here :>)

Countdown to 11 years.....

Started crunching classic on Compaq Armada Pent II 200MMX laptop w/ Win95.
IIRC, it took @ 120 or so hours per WU.

I read about the project in an article @ Pop Sci or Business Week while on a flight.
Thought it was really cool opportunity since I was already familiar w/ Seti project, Arecibo etc.

Bottom line is that even analysts don't know and are afraid to "underestimate" the power of the Apple brand, even with all the questions surrounding this product.

Which brings us to this video:

Apple Introduces Revolutionary New Laptop With No Keyboard

OMG, that is hysterical! and SOOOO believable.

I thought this article from TheInquirer gave a nice "no-spin" summary.

40) Message boards : Politics : Obama to kill Ares program (Message 966520)
Posted 28 Jan 2010 by Profile Gecko
Post:

From that article:

Instead, according to White House insiders, agency officials, industry executives and congressional sources familiar with Obama's plans, NASA will look at developing a "heavy-lift" rocket that one day will take humans and robots to explore beyond low-Earth orbit. That day will be years away.

The White House will direct NASA to concentrate on Earth-science projects -- principally, researching and monitoring climate change -- and on a new technology research and development program designed to someday enable human exploration of asteroids and the inner solar system.

Looks like Obama is looking beyond the moon.

We've been there, done it. The moon is an old goal. Why repeat it? Especially, why repeat past glory when there is far greater interest beyond?

Let's look closer. If Kennedy had laid out the same deliverables as this, the moon NEVER would have happened in 69'. There's no substance to these words, and NASA will find there to be NO FUNDING from Washington to support this directive. He's pushing off details and funding to future administrations that will be LONG after his.

This isn't an inspiring Vision, just empty words from a President that doesn't have any plan and is too narcissistic to admit it.

And above is merely my opinion. Don't let me dissuade anyone from theirs. :>)
