Yes, that's the host. I aborted the WU while it was hanging, right after download, before it got started to crunch. Maybe that's why it doesn't show as aborted?

It's the most recent WU showing status "Client error" I think. It was a successful abort on this end though. :)

Yeah, I aborted the WU that was hanging.

Coop? I installed the optimized app from KWSN: http://lunatics.at/index.php?module=Downloads;sa=dlview;id=60 ...but BoincMgr still nags about that missing DLL. :/

Thanks for the link. I did as you suggested there in that thread and went for alt. 2) - edited out all the v4 references, but it still tries (and fails) to download the DLL file. Error messages "No URL...". And I also get the same sympthom as the guy in that thread - the downloaded WU is "stuck in transfer". Its status is "Downloading". Actually it looks like it was downloaded Ok (from the message log) but now is suspended because it waits for the DLL file first.

So should I go for alt. 1) then, empty the cache and delete everything in the Project area? Or is it some easy way to enter the missing URL?

Then it must be some old data stuck somewhere - perhaps in the app_info file, because this client I downloaded from Boinc download area.

Just looked in the app_info.xml and it does have references to version 4... How should it look now? Maybe I should reinstall with just defaults?

What does this DLL file do? Can I disable it in configuration if I don't need it?

I upgraded the client a few days ago to the latest version and since then it's been complaining about a missing DLL, libfftw3f-3-1-1a.dll, which it tries unsuccessfully to download.

Where can I find and download this file?

Nothing. I just don't like flaming. It's not just yours, DB, and it's nothing personal to you. There has been many flame threads here the last months - even if they didn't have the word "flame" in their subject.

Good luck to you and have a nice summer season, DB. :)

I'm taking a sabattial period off now from these boards, so I won't be posting in the next few months. Summer is coming and there is so much else to do outside in RL. Besides, I must admit, I don't like that flame threads have been ressurected here.

Bye for now and have a great summer! :)

But in Europe your public transportation systems are better than ours will ever be.
That may be true for some parts of Europe, like London, Paris, Moscow, Berlin and other big cities, but I've lived most of my life in a place where the only public transport - a bus - went @ 6 PM Saturday night and the next one didn't arrive until Monday morning. This is in one of the most dense populated areas in south of this country. In the north, the situation is much much worse. Plus the gas is even more expensive in the north than here, after the government got rid of the special transport subdices for that part of the country. Large parts of North Norway is so desolate they must have a car to survive. Just imagine having 300 miles to the nearest doctor... and your wife is pregnant in her 9th month...

Geez, gas prices went up 6 cents since yesterday! Congrats to San Diego! We have hit 3 bucks a gallon for cheapo unleaded! This is more than just a sulk, its a FREAKING SULK!
You should try living here, in the outer rim, where gas prices are more than double that - even if we are the 3rd largest oil producer in the world...

which is the best from these 3 procesor only for SETI ?
Intel processors have an advantage as SETI crunchers, because the compiler used for making the crunching app favorizes Intel.

Don't buy the current Xeon's. They're "old and slow" compared to both AMD Opterons/X2 and Pentium D's. If you buy the AMD X2, go for the 4400+ model, because of the cache size. But I'd wait just a few days, until April 23, and buy a Pentium D 950 for $316 - the same as the 930 costs today! Or do as John Clark suggests and wait 'till fall when the new Xeon's arrive.

Well, that's not a bad substitution... You'll run the shirt off the Intel 950 or 960! Congrats! :)

I bump this thread as a reminder of the fantastic price cuts on April 23rd - very soon! :)

It looks like Intel have decided to cut the prices even more now. Upto 50% on the 950! Here's the new price list, starting April 23rd:

Model Speed Today 23 April Change
Pentium D 920 2,8 GHz $ 241 $ 209 - 13,3 %
Pentium D 930 3,0 GHz $ 316 $ 209 - 33,9 %
Pentium D 940 3,2 GHz $ 423 $ 241 - 43,0 %
Pentium D 950 3,4 GHz $ 637 $ 316 - 50,4 %
Pentium D 960 3,6 GHz - $ 530 - (April 30)

Then, in the 3rd quarter of 2006:

Model Speed 23 April 3rd Q Change
Pentium D 920 2,8 GHz $ 209 $ 178 - 14,8 %
Pentium D 930 3,0 GHz $ 209 - -
Pentium D 940 3,2 GHz $ 241 $ 209 - 13,3 %
Pentium D 950 3,4 GHz $ 316 $ 241 - 23,7 %
Pentium D 960 3,6 GHz $ 530 $ 316 - 40,4 %
"Conroe" $ 530?
"Conroe" $ 637?
