Hello all! Hope everyone is having a great start to the New Year! I know nothing about linux, however mid 2019 Steve and a few others helped me to get a cheap build running with the special linux app. Computer has been running great, and I have an extra gpu I was going to install into the machine so I can crunch with two instead of just one.

Do I need to do anything so the special app recognizes and uses the 2nd gpu that I have installed? Do I just install it, and everything should work fine? Or do I need to use some commands so linux knows theres two? I know nothing about linux, so any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks :D

...imo, I have seen a LOT more people (especially down here) get vocal about their racism and prejudices. I believe a open-minded black president was just too much for some to handle.

This is where better education and better wider communication is needed...

It seems to be all too fateful for isolated groups (or groups of people that make themselves isolated) to become extremists in whatever random ways. Or for them to become lost in self-imagined 'olden days of glory'...

Is this where freely available internet access to all could help? And at a much lower cost than yet more prisons for whatever lost souls!

Or do we need 'better' or more wide ranging TV to show people more cooperative examples to live better and more happily?

Note that not all isolated groups turn bad or rotten or negatively/destructively/xenophobically extreme...

There are some religious groups that give themselves a positive vocation to do good in our world that seem to positively thrive for themselves and all others around.

More cooperation and love and happiness needed?

All in our only one world,
Martin

The Internet is making it possible for us to isolate even more. We get news feeds, YouTube, Twiter and the ilk that are aimed at our likes . Often this is done for commercial advertising purposes. So I argue that while yes we have more access people can stay in their own zone and never interact with opposing views better then ever.

I hate to say it, I've kinda done this. Google news will let you say "no...I dont want more news about trump jr" "no news about celebrities" you can basically tweak the app to show what you want to see.

I picked up a sky-watcher star adventurer mount a yr ago. Never been able to take it out and use it. The one part I really have to figure out, is getting it calibrated onsite. Downloaded a phone app that should help, but havent taken it out yet :( Tried it once, but I honestly set it up wrong on the counter weight, haha.

I'm REALLY curious if anyone actually bought a plane ticket or is getting ready to drive down for this.

The USAF is ready and willing for sure...

Well, see if you can book a room at the Little A'le'inn in Rachel NV.

Hahaha, you cannot, booked solid.

Been obsessed recently with a show called Aerial America on the Smithsonian Channel. Just pure helicopter and drone views for 60 mins, about the history of the state it's flying around.

depth of field is because you were using a very wide aperture, not necessarily due to the focal length. focal length and subject distance combos really just affect the background compression.

you probably had it in Auto, or Shutter Priority mode, and it shot on the widest aperture to have enough exposure for the lighting conditions.

Haha no, I haven't used Auto or Shutter Priority on my camera actually ever. I use manual 100% of the time (photography is my full time job), except for when I shoot for a client who does fun-runs, he makes me shoot in a mode. If I am on a tripod, theres no reason not to use manual, its pointless IMO, with the fun-runs it makes sense...everything happens so quickly when theres 1000s of people. But corporate events and arch work, manual through and through!

Thats why I said the ISO was between 1600 and 3200, and the shutter was 15-30s. I was trying many different variations when I was there, I do not have the raw file so I cannot find out 100% I can 100% say it was shot on my Canon Mark 3, with my 17-40f4L.

Haha, I am from Houston and yes my dog understands Spanish as well as English. Picked him up from a shelter and they mentioned that he was with a Hispanic family for some time (he had a very weird story...beaten badly,) was supposed to be a dalmatian/retriever mix, however....after I realized it, Dalmatian's spots are on their hair, this dogs spots are on his skin! After talking to a few people, the shelter most likely knowingly marked him as anything besides pit-bull mix due to the fact they would have to put them down. But he is definitely pit bull. Here is a picture of him after I got him a few years ago. I will post a recent one soon, hes currently outside relaxing on the patio.

Just got my first NVIDIA card running on Linux. You weren't kidding - the performance upgrade from Windows generic to the special app is amazing (tasks taking ~8 minutes on the 970 now take between 2 and 3 minutes).
Hats off to TBar, PETRI, and numerous others whose work, and earlier comments in the forum, got me this far. Still brand new novice to LINUX, but now have 2 boxes working it (one CPU only, but even that's about twice as fast as Win10).
Fred

. . That is probably because you were running stock under Windows. The AIO offers SSE4.1 I believe (or is it SSSE3.0) which is/are much faster than the stock app. If you had run Lunatics under Windows the CPU times would have been similar. But while SoG is a great piece of work Petri found the magic formula with using Cuda 9.0. And thanks to TBar's efforts it is there for all of us to use :).

Stephen

:)

I have been finding the same as well, definitely hats off and thanks to everyone in regards with the linux app! My recent cheap AMD cpu, and 1030 gpu is killing it right now. Whenever I get more money, I might build another one....haha. Was only like $275 total. https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=8756281

I am curious what I need to do to help improve my windows machine and how one runs lunatics under windows. My main PC is windows, because of all the photo editing software. But, I guess I could always dual boot linux?
