BOINC not giving up CPU
(Message 2020100)
Posted 22 Nov 2019 by ![]() Post: I have a situation where I local prefs file specifies says to suspend if CPU is above 60%. When I try to use FIREFOX, I get lots of stalls and messages about long running scripts. AVI videos are stalling and breaking up. If I SLEEP or EXIT BOINC(SETI@HOME), FIREFOX and videos run clean. I am on WIN 7 LENOVO T510 with 4 cores I5 processor, 2.40 ghz |

Posted 21 Feb 2018 by ![]() Post: I just got a new Android phone, octacore with AArch64 Processor . 3.18.35 (Android 7.0) I run BOINC and SET@HOME. I can download work units, but within seconds of them starting, I get COMPUTATION ERROR for all units. I downloaded BOINC/SET@HOME in he last week, so fairly current , BOINC 7.4.53 Is this processor supported? and if so, what might I be missing? If not, when might it be supported. Thanks Ernest Cyber-ET |

Posted 26 Jun 2010 by ![]() Post: 50% that's the value I needed. Thanks. My ACER Aspire One KAV10 Netbook has an Intel Atom processor which is really single core but BOINC tginks it is double so had two tasks running but swapping CPU cycles between each every few seconds. |

BOINC Host Average
(Message 220004)
Posted 23 Dec 2005 by ![]() Post: How come, when I check "WORK", it typically tells me it will take 5 hours to process a file, yet when I look at "Show Host Average" it shows 118. Is there a disconnect, since 24hours/5 should be about 5 a day, not 118. Where/how is this value calculated? On SETI classic, I managed about 37,000 work units for all my systems over 6 years. BOINC says my "USER TOTAL" since early December is already well over 22,000. Again, what are these values? |

Posted 6 Dec 2005 by ![]() Post: You have to install BOINC completely since it is working as a daemon. For attaching Seti@home to BOINC it is recommended to use the BOINC Manager. After that procedure BOINC can run in the background by controlling it using the boinccmd.exe. So no graphics is needed. But this does not help my OS/2 WARP 4 server. |

BOINC as SCREENSAVER WIN98SE incorrect operation
(Message 204190)
Posted 6 Dec 2005 by ![]() Post: When I instal BOINC 5.2.13 on WIN98SE (four systems), the installer asks if BOINC should be the default screen saver. I turn off the option, but it still becomes the default. This only occurs on WIN98SE. When I installed on WIN2000, it honoured my request (not to make it the default screen saver). |

Boinc Sucks
(Message 204182)
Posted 6 Dec 2005 by ![]() Post: I too had serious initial growing pains with BOINC/SETI. The early problems (forcing a PROXY request when I have none) all went away when I downloaded BOINC 5.2.8 My next and last issue was the subtle change from seti@home.berkeley.edu to setiathome.berkeley.edu. The "@" and "at" are easy to overlook especially for us long time SETI'ers. Perhaps the SETI instructions should highlight that the "@" has changed to "at" for BOINC connect. All seems to be stable on my systems now. |
