Somehow, the mass media news appears to be mainly negative or just simply grotesquely sensationalist.

To try to add some positivity to the balance, here we have a thread for Positive World News.

That title works equally well for "Positive World, News", "Positive, World News", and for "Positive World News" all alike depending on where you want to put or blur the emphasis.

We do have a beautiful world amidst the various bits of silliness!

Enjoy!

I'll lead the positivity with some guaranteed good thoughtful thoughts:

If we had more women leaders, the world would be a safer place: His Holiness the Dalai Lama
wrote:
Dharamshala, India — “Sometimes I speculate that if we had more women leaders, the world would be a safer place. Look at Finland and New Zealand and the achievements of their women leaders”...

... His Holiness the Dalai Lama interacted with 12 young influencers and change-makers with different conflict-ridden backgrounds, these individuals got the chance to interact with His Holiness through online video communication from his residence in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, India on April 12, [2021]...

... His Holiness the Dalai Lama answered by saying, “In my lifetime, I’ve seen a great deal of bloodshed in a variety of wars. The result of such violence has just been suffering and more hatred. This is one of the reasons why I admire the European Union. Historically several of the nations that are among its members, especially the French and Germans, have regularly fought with each other down the centuries. However, after the end of the Second World War, they realized that constantly viewing your neighbor as your enemy serves no good purpose. Today, we have to think about the whole of humanity. It’s no longer enough just to think of your own nation or continent. The whole world has to be included...

Hopefully for our example of "Brexit" for the UK, we are in reality still very much a part of the feelings for Europe regardless of the 'grandstanding' of the present short term politics. We have already enjoyed the first few uninterrupted multiple generations of peace for the first time in recorded history for the largest area across Europe so far in our recorded history. Here's hoping we continue to improve relations across an ever wider area.

All in our one world,
Martin

Hey! You missed out the historic Maggie Thatcher and the even more historic Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth I, Joan of Arc, Boudica, and I'm sure others that history should mention better.

There are notable inspirational women making positive change today: 12 Women Leaders That Changed The World In 2020.

Note that most leaders carve their name in history for their actions in war and battles and atrocity...

I'm sure that His Holiness has chosen his two present day examples with his usual great care and insight for making a positive difference to help and improve our world.

Positive news for Northern Ireland

That looks and sounds like good but difficult poilitics in action. Also, far better than the poisoned rhetoric of "talks about 'talks'" of the past.

To note some snippets:

If there is a leadership contest, it will be the first in the DUP's 50-year history.

... Mrs Foster said it was important to give space over the coming weeks for the party officers to make arrangements for the election of a new leader.

  • From trailblazing leader to party civil war
  • Why did the DUP move against Arlene Foster?
  • 'The DUP has lost touch with ordinary unionists'

Mrs Foster has endured a turbulent time as DUP leader and the fall-out from Brexit - which the party supported - has put particular pressure on the party's top brass as it faces having to weather the storm caused by the Northern Ireland Protocol, which imposed a border down the Irish Sea.

It has also been suggested recent changes to NI's abortion laws and the commitment to implement an Irish language act were causing concerns with some elected DUP representatives ahead of next year's assembly election...

... [Deputy First Minister Michelle O'Neill - ] "The broad community are impatient for social reform and political change which reflects a modern and progressive society where everyone can feel that they belong on an equal basis,"

The real positive news is if all parties concerned can finally bury the hatchets of tribalism and conflict and vendettas of old and instead look forwards to new and better things equally.

Here's hoping for that part of the world to move up to better times!

A resignation note left by a cleaner for her boss has gone viral on Twitter, with people speaking out against the poor treatment of support staff.

Julie Cousin walked out of her job as a cleaner for HSBC last Friday after 35 years...

[Awful manager] ... Ms Cousins wrote in the note that the treatment she experienced was "nothing more than aggressive and cruel".

"So going forward, please all of you remember - in a world when you can be anything, be kind, because you are all no better than the cleaner."...

... She added that she decided to leave after the upsetting incident with the manager, as she wanted to work with people she felt comfortable with...

... Multiple users said that that it was important to make an effort to chat to cleaners and other support staff in the workplace, treating them as colleagues, rather than inferior workers. They added that doing so led to a pleasant working environment, a sense of camaraderie, and even cleaner offices to work in. ...

Nasa craft carrying 4.5bn-year-old asteroid dust begins long trek home

A time capsule containing a sample of rock and dirt as old as the Solar System will drop from outer space into the Utah desert on 24 September 2023.

That is what Nasa has planned for its historic Osiris-Rex asteroid probe, which began its trek home on Monday.

Its precious cargo of 60g of ancient debris from the near-Earth asteroid Bennu is the largest sample collected since the Apollo Moon missions...

Fantastic results from a dedicated team of scientists and engineers spanning decades here on earth to put that epic trek in motion!

Here is some good news for greater kindness to ALL creatures great and small:

Queen's Speech: Government makes pledges on animal welfare
wrote:
... for the upcoming Parliament, the pledges ranged from improving standards in zoos to mandatory microchipping for cats.

The measures will be covered by three bills introduced over the next year. No 10 said it wanted to be a "global leader" on animal welfare and set "high standards for others across the world to follow"...

... In its Action Plan for Animal Welfare, it commits to:

  • Recognising animal sentience - the capacity of animals to have feelings, including pain and suffering - in law through the Animal Welfare (Sentience) Bill
  • Ending the export of live animals for fattening and slaughter and taking "further steps" to limit foie gras trade
  • Bringing in "more effective powers" to tackle livestock worrying as part of its Kept Animals Bill
  • Also using the bill to stop people keeping primates as pets, improving standards in zoos and "cracking down" on puppy smuggling
  • Bringing in mandatory cat microchipping and improving the current databases.

The government also proposed banning the import of hunting trophies - as well as stopping advertising for the trips to hunt them...

For some fun musical positivity, we have:

Black Score: "4K" - Exactly 4 Million Notes ... MIDI ~ TheSuperMarioBros2

Headphones required to appreciate that one!

So, that uses the old computer MIDI 'list of notes' that are then played. In this example, LOTs of 'em!

And then for fun, we have this extreme example:

10 MIDI AUDIO ILLUSIONS - Can You Guess ALL the Songs?

For me, Number 5 is the most recognizable.

Regardless, that is just tremendous! Crazy abuse of MIDI and a crazy example of where the MIDI file for that must be silly larger than the resultant audio file!!

Enjoy!
