Trump’s New Criminal Problem
The president could face charges for inciting the Capitol riot—and maybe even for inciting the murder of a Capitol Police Officer.
https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2021/01/11/trumps-new-criminal-problem-457298

......If the federal investigation into the deaths determines that those responsible were incited to violence at the Save America rally that occurred
just hours before, President Donald Trump could face criminal charges, even if he didn’t storm the Capitol himself.

The federal criminal code (18 USC 373) makes it a crime to solicit, command, induce or “endeavor to persuade” another person to commit a felony
that includes the threat or use of physical force. Simply put, it is a crime to persuade another person, or a mob of several thousand, to commit a violent felony.

One company you won't find on that list at any time.
US politics is awash with corporate money. Big companies often make donations to the Republican and Democratic parties in support of their business interests.
But last week’s invasion of the Capitol has forced a growing number of businesses to reconsider their contributions.
Some companies have paused all political donations, including tech firms Facebook, Microsoft and Google.
Others have suspended contributions to specific politicians. Property rental company Airbnb, chemical giant Dow and General Electric have all pledged to withhold support from politicians who voted against the certification of the presidential election results.

Fundraising activity is currently at a post-election lull in Washington, giving businesses and trade groups time to figure out their approach.
Many will not want to be associated with politicians implicated in the storming of the Capitol.

Still spouting his inflammatory B/S. Hurry up day Zero.
In the days since the deadly Capitol assault, there has been virtual silence from President Trump. His Twitter account - his preferred mode of communication - was permanently suspended last Friday, and he has not made any public media appearances to address the violence.
He has, however, made some comments in a private conversation with Republican House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy.

In that conversation, as reported by various US media outlets including BBC partner CBS News, Trump admitted he was at least partially to blame for what transpired at the Capitol last Wednesday.
But, according to an account of the call recounted to Axios, Trump also blamed a movement of left-wing activists, known as Antifa, for storming the Capitol - an allegation for which there is no evidence.
Citing two sources, Axios reported that McCarthy would have none of it, telling the president: “It's not Antifa, it's MAGA [Trump’s supporters]. I know. I was there.”
McCarthy is opposed to the Democratic effort to impeach Trump, but he is facing pressure within the Republican party to hold the president to account for his role in the Capitol riots.

How did we come to this?!

This is a dangerously unsettled time for this to be even mentioned let alone directly reminded to all:

Joint Chiefs of Staff call Capitol riot 'sedition and insurrection,' remind troops of oath
wrote:
The Pentagon’s senior military leadership on Tuesday branded the riot Jan. 6 at the Capitol “sedition and insurrection” and admonished troops to heed their charge to protect and defend the Constitution “against all enemies, foreign and domestic.”...

There is some very careful wording there...

This is a long read, but it does highlight where the U.S. is going wrong.

Can we save democracy from the two-party system?

Basically it comes down to far too much worship of the $ (in elite hands) and an outlook that has progressed far too far to the right that is spiraling far too much into seeing violence as a solution to its problems.

Reading several news media sources, I get the feeling that the Senate GOP members lead by Mitch McConnell ,are willing to impeach Trump.

Mitch's reasoning includes the thoughts that "He would be "pleased" if Mr Trump was impeached because it would help to "purge" him from the Republican party." and stop Trump running as a Republican in 2024.

And where Mitch leads the moderate Republicans will follow.

Watched his speech at the Senate last week regarding the riot.
He stated that he had served the country party for 36 years.
He's part of the problem not the solution.
Some time ago on these boards, Guy posted, limit the time that career politicians can serve.
He is right.

With all eyes being on the USA, in particular on the current impeachment proceedings may I take a moment or two to remind people about one of the forums rules.
DO NOT post anything that inflammatory.
This includes links to videos on sites like YouTube. Yes, I know sometimes they can be quite humorous or be totally innocent. BUT sadly there are occasions when a perfectly innocent video has had its message hijacked in its comments section. So, be very careful when you post such links, and do not be upset if, due to inflammatory comments it is taken down.

Further, there are some users that are using "organisational titles" or "political allegiances" in a manner that may be misconstrued or is offensive. Not everyone who holds political views opposing you is an extremist, so, just be careful. If you have a question about such a tile you want to use I'm sure an email to the moderators will get you some guidance.

Stepping back a day or two, this is just incredible:

Chaos ERUPTS as GOP refuses to seat winning Democrat in Pennsylvania (interview with PA Lt. Gov.)
wrote:
INTERVIEW: Brian interviews Pennsylvania Lt. Governor John Fetterman about a Republican effort in PA NOT to seat a Democratic official whose win was certified, and his headline-making announcement about a Senate run in 2022

Those events unfolded at merely a ceremonial meeting!

Is this where the losers are now just going to make up any no-rules game they choose for themselves?!

Unfortunately, with the massive Fake News propaganda that has been cruelly pushed well beyond the point where too many people can no longer even guess what any truth might be, there is going to be a very large group of people that will feel unhappy and 'cheated' regardless of what any outcome might be.

Worse still, there are going to be some very unhappy groups of people that feel themselves to have been criminally duped when the truth does slowly trickle through...

These are stirred up delicate times for the USA...

Possibly because he realises that that would lead to a very messy outcome being a sort of "one man band" event, whereas the impeachment by the lower house followed by a trial in the upper house can be viewed is a sort of legal process.

All we can do now is hope that the hot heads (on both sides of the US political environment) can keep their cool. The last thing we need are one side in a celebratory dace, while the other are enraged by defeat.

Is there intimidation or at least the threat of intimidation at play?...

That's no way to run a country...

Seeing many actually explain the 25th, I have to agree with Pence.
It's not there for punitive reasons but serious disabling reasons. Impeachment is the better road.
