The videos shared Sunday, May 28, by a TikTok user showed dozens of swimmers along the Huntsville State Park shore while others were trapped on the platform. Alligators are among the creatures that live in the lake, which is in a northern suburb of Houston. Many people said in the TikTok comments that visitors are often warned about the lake’s habitants. But some likely didn’t get the memo.

In less than two weeks, all five of the Philadelphia Zoo’s meerkats died. Now, the zoo needs to find out why.

“We had five meerkats that passed between June 1st and Monday,” Amy Shearer, chief experience officer for the zoo, said Wednesday in a phone interview. “The whole staff is devastated.”

The deaths could have “possibly” been caused by an agricultural dye called Nyanzol-D, she said.

“The Zoo is pursuing the possibility that the dye that has been used for 30 years to differentiate some of the animals may have caused a toxic reaction,” Shearer said.

The group of meerkats were siblings named Nkosi, Lula, Ari, Kgala and Nya, and had been at the zoo since 2013, according to Shearer.

The zoo also uses Nyanzol-D on its small primates, according to Shearer, though it has now stopped using the chemical due to the recent fatalities. The dye had been used on the meerkats before, and none of the other animals at the zoo are sick, she said......

The young macaques died after their mothers were marked with dye at the University of California, Davis, primate research laboratory.

Once reunited with their infants, the female macaques inadvertently transferred the dye, which proved toxic to them. Seven of the infants, none more than a few weeks old – with one just a day old – subsequently died.

A Netflix documentary film crew had a scary encounter on the waters of the Pacific Ocean north of Hawaii when the blow-up boats they were floating in were attacked by 15-foot Tiger sharks, according to reports.

The crew, who were collecting footage of a Laysan albatross’s maiden flight for David Attenborough’s Our Planet II, had been aiming to get shots underwater during the six-day trip.

Vanilla, a 28-year-old chimpanzee, had never been outside of a cage or enclosure. She is one of the surviving chimps from the New York-based Laboratory for Experimental Medicine & Surgery in Primates (LEMSIP). Vanilla and her sister, Shake, have a new island home at Save the Chimps in Fort Pierce, Florida.

There have been some devasting dam collapses in human history. Most notable, perhaps, was the failure of the South Fork Dam near Johnstown, Pennsylvania in May 1889. Its collapse released 20 million tons of water, sand and debris which flattened buildings in its path killing over 2,000 people.

However, humans did not invent dams! Beavers perfected the art of dam building a long time before we did and as this astonishing clip reveals, they also encounter structural failures. In the below footage, we get to see a beaver dam collapsing in Cook, Minnesota. It had taken the beavers seven years to create. Thankfully, no one was injured in the torrent of water that was released...

All of the encounters involve some combination of the same roughly 15 animals, which have sunk three vessels and disabled dozens more.

Obviously they havn't been looking around for them at the top of the hill from there.
