Sadly, this is not the first time a Florida alligator has had a small dog or senior citizen for a meal and most likely won't be the last.

Having visited and know people who live in this part of the Florida Treasure Coast...
I have seen signs at these 'lakes' (more like retention ponds) with warning signs informing you not to walk too close to the shore lines and watch out for potential alligator encounters.

A Florida homeowner opened his front door. He was bitten by an alligator

The alligator was 7-feet, 10-inches long, said state-certified trapper, Curtis Lucas, who was called by Florida Fish and Wildlife officials to trap the reptile.

"The resident opened the front door after hearing a noise, believing it was someone looking for his son. The alligator lunged and he was bitten in the upper thigh," McCallister said in a news release.

I've had raccoons come through the doggie doors, and I completely enjoyed it. I might have had an opossum come through once, but there's a bigger chance that one of my dogs carried it in. It was hurt, but not very bad.

Because of the dogs, I don't think any critter would make it through the doggy door. Also, I've taken to closing the door so that no one can use it while I'm sleeping.

I wonder what kind of dog it was and was there any "interaction" between the two?

Recent floods here have not only been over beneficial to native fish it has also done the same for an introduced pest so what happened to the Carp herpes that was meant to get rid of Australia's worst aquatic pest?

....Cyprinid herpesvirus 3 was first identified following a large outbreak at a carp farm in Germany in 1997, which was followed by similar outbreaks in the US and Israel the following year.

Infected fish were found blotched white, with patches of bleeding skin, necrosis or rotting of the gills, and showing signs of lethargy, among other symptoms.

The virus is mostly spread via contact, meaning fish in high densities are most at risk of transmission.

While that's bad news for aquaculture, it could be the Achilles heel for the pest in Australia, which schools in huge numbers during breeding and when waterholes are drying up.

The government's $15 million investment was sunk into the National Carp Control Plan to investigate just that.....

So ATM more testing is required before it gets the go ahead to rid us of this environmental pest.

Climate change isn't helping some animals, but humans step in when they can.

Baby loggerhead turtles returned to Shelly Beach on Central Coast and released after hatching at Taronga.

Getting to the ocean is no small task for baby sea turtles.

The animals have to break out of their shells, dig their way out of the sand and dodge predators along the way to the water.

Once they are in the ocean, more dangers await them.

The journey for dozens of baby loggerhead turtles on the New South Wales Central Coast has been made a little bit easier with the help of wildlife experts and volunteers.

Ninety-three baby turtles were released into the ocean at Shelly Beach overnight after their nest was excavated and transported to Taronga Zoo in Sydney just over a week ago.

Taronga Zoo senior veterinarian Larry Vogelnest said he could not believe the turtles had made it this far.

"The success rate is phenomenal," he said.....
