Been asked to register team for the 17th birthday challenge on WCG. Did so & as my current cache of OPN1 runs out approx. 2am 16/11, changed profile so that I can run MCM. 15/11/2021 17:24:43 | World Community Grid | Scheduler request completed: got 52 new tasks 15/11/2021 17:26:51 | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for Mapping Cancer Markers 15/11/2021 17:28:53 | World Community Grid | This computer has finished a daily quota of 5 tasks Cache is for 3 days, so 3x5=15 Hmm... |

Now 36th atm. :-) A shout out to all team orphans on WCG. The challenge is only until 22nd. No problem if you wish to crunch as it stands, but any extra help will be great. |

38th atm. :-) . . OK you guys guilted me into it! . . I haven't crunched WCG for well over a year, long before the changes, and it took me a while to find their settings page. But I now have 4 cores crunching MCM. It looks like each task will take about 2.5 hours so only about 40 tasks per day from me but let's see if that makes any difference. . . But for the record only #37 ... sorry. Stephen |

late to the game, and not much to offer, but I'll do what I can for the week. |

late to the game, and not much to offer, but I'll do what I can for the week. . . And always welcome :) . . As Grumpy said, every bit counts ... Stephen |

Only 69,821 points, out of our teams 241,566 total points generated yesterday, went to the WCG 17th Birthday Challenge. . . Well the team captain/founder can email the active members and petition them to move to MCM for the remainder of the week ... Stephen . . I can be a little brash that way ... :) |

No problem with that Stephen. In fact Grumpy already suggested that. Unfortunately, that's not possible. The email would only have gone out to 3 members, so didn't bother (sorry). |

No problem with that Stephen. In fact Grumpy already suggested that. . . Don't worry ... I am familiar with the Syndrome. Over at E@H I was in team Australia, same as at S@H, and there were about a dozen members. But when I resumed crunching in August because of the availability of the new app there (thanks to Petri33), I was the only one doing any work, the others had moved on. So I moved to Racoon Lovers with Richard Hasselgrove, in honour of the our beloved S@H leader's boss, Angela :) Better a team of 3 than a team of one. I guess in the absence of S@H a slow decay was inevitable. . . Hopefully we will make a worthwhile showing ... Stephen :) |

The problem was that only 3 members had ticked the box on their profile page, to allow the team Captain to send them an E-mail. . . OK, I will stretch things and throw a couple more cores at the problem :) . . I will try the one unused core on the i5-6600, but it runs hot enough just supporting the 2 x 970's. Oh well if is doesn't do well I can turn it off again. Stephen |

Thanks Stephen! . . I will have a look. . . But I may not need it. The CPU was sitting nicely at 60C and now has risen (of course) and is fluctuating between 64C and 70C. I think I can live with that ... for a week :) Stephen Edit:- . . It looks nice but it is a Windows tool, I am running Linux ~:-( . . PPS :- OK, this is silly, I have set the Ryzen to use 6 cores/threads now but it steadfastly refuses to use more than 4 :( |

Added four or five cores to our pile (and maybe a couple of GPUs if I've hit the right buttons.....) Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

. . Question for anyone ... . . IN WCG I have set the preferences to allow up to 90% pf CPU cores/threads (to be sure, to be sure) and set the max cores to 6, but it is still only using 4 cores. IS there a setting I have missed to get it to use 6 as I specified? Stephen |

Overridden by local preferences? . . D'OH!!! . . Aint it funny how quickly we get rusty on things and can focus on one aspect with blinkers on ... . . Thanks muchly. Stephen .. BTW, now crunching on six cores, but that is about it for me. I don't think the 6600 will cope, it is fine overnight but the cold spell is over and during the day it gets rather toasty ... |

I've gone from 3 hour run time to 6 hour run time per MCM. Are some WUs just more intense, or a setting issue? I'm surprised they aren't validating quicker as well. I'm finally getting resends which are helpful as they usually already have a result waiting to be validated. Thanks for setting this up GS. |

I'll confirm what Grumpy says. I've run both Linux & Windows on WCG on numerous projects. With some tasks, Linux did run faster & others which ran faster under Windows. Another thing to consider is the wu's themselves. My 1st batch since switching to MCM showed the estimated times to be 5.5/6 hours, most completed in 4.5. The next batch show 2.45 with some taking between 3/3.25 to complete (all cpu). |

Thanks for signing the team up for this Sirius B. I'm having fun with this. The link to the thread on WCG was useful. There seem to be two types of MCM WUs (LOO and NFCV) and on my machine they have different run times. Hopefully I'll get more credit for the longer running ones. |
