Well people - it's THAT day - a day that was going to happen at some point even if we didn't want it to go away. While it has been a pleasure to be involved for so long it has not been witout it's frustrations too...but most of them were resolved and the project carried on, learning from some of it's mistakes and continuing to make others :-) But we're here now. So, a big thank you to everyone involved for providing us with a useful hobby, and with it's aim of finding ET never quite being achieved (up until now). Hopefully most other distributed computing projects might see an increase in users as SETI crunchers move on to other goals. And with luck, one day this project might re-emerge from hibernation. Best of luck to everyone, thanks for all the tasks and stay safe !! PS: Can everyone else please stop downloading tasks - I'm trying to hit the 10 million mark by the end of today and I can't reach this total, if everyone else is grabbing whatever tasks are available ;-) regards, Tim Founder, UK BOINC Team Join us @ UK BOINC Team: http://www.ukboincteam.org.uk/newforum ![]() |

"For every ending there is a new beginning." Anon? Hope it is as interesting as Seti@Home has been. Tom A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association). |

Besides the video card, what are your system specs? Thanks, Richard The "main" SETI computer - built in 2015 for the most part (except the GPU and the EVO SSD): CPU - Intel i5-4590 - 4 core/thread - nominal speed is 3.3 GHz, but it always is turbos to 3.5 or better (3.5 on 3-4 cores, 3.6 on 2, 3.7 if only using 1 core). Only using the stock cooler that came with the chip. RAM - 16 GB of PC3-12800 running 9,9,9,27 (a pretty quick, low latency profile for this speed of RAM) MB - ASRock H97M Pro4 GPU - EVGA Nvidia GTX 1060 - was only a tad over $220 when I got it. Other various do-dads - An ASUS DVD burner, couple of SSD drives (Samsung 860 EVO 500GB, SanDisk 240BG), a spinner (WD blue 1TB), and backup power provided by a CyberPower 1500 VA inverter, which will keep the system running (even while fully loaded/crunching) for about 30-40 minutes. I also have a laptop which primarily functions as a part of my entertainment system for things like Music, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, playing DVDs, etc. But I also allow that to (slowly) crunch while it's not busy otherwise: ACER - Aspire E5-575 with an Intel i3-7100U - 2 core/4 thread. 2.4 GHz. Upgraded by doubling the RAM to 8GB, adding a WD 240 GB 2280 SSD card. The i3 has Intel's HD 620 GPU, which is pretty weak. ![]() |

I thank the SETI team for 20 years of an enjoyable project spent. I've enjoyed watching the focus and application change over these many years. I've run SETI on so many different platforms (including an Alpha processor base system) built from scratch. Its been a fun adventure. kudos on so many scientific and computing firsts. I am running my last SETI@home tasks on a Linux Virtual Machine hosted on a Windows 10 PC. The OS is OpenSuSE Tumbleweed development OS with kernel 5.5.11. It is a long way from Windows 98 and Slackware on a double boot PC with a Deschutes Intel PII when I started in 2004. So long SETI. Tullio |

Been a member since July 1999 and have donated 10+ years of computer time... Sad to see it end, but hopefully the team can figure a way to keep us all in the loop... |

Ok, here we all are. The "last day". The day "SETI@home will stop distributing work". This kind of has a "Truman Show" feel to it. For those who have seen the movie... --Truman at last exits his enclosed world. A place where he has been nurtured and safe --his entire life. He finds an exit and goes through it to..." All those who followed "The --Truman Show" on their televisions over all those years now don't know what to do --with themselves now that the show is over. One of those viewers pauses and says, --"what do we do now? His friend replies "let's see what else is on". Be well ! |

My first and last post: I started on 15th May 1999 and here we are on 31st March 2020 with the project ending later today. I have certainly enjoyed trying to contribute and I certainly hope the forthcoming academic paper(s) will illustrate what advances in astronomy, signal processing, computing, other areas of science and technology have been achieved. Berkeley: when you do publish, please make the papers open access! I wouldn't like to see a paywall in the way of all of these contributors. |

After 20 years of SetiHome, I have just calculated and uploaded my last packages. Thank you for this exciting project. I never forget you. Greetings from Cologne Germany Wolfgang |

I am basically checking hourly, when the last work unit will be done... more than 20 years... I´ll open a nice bottle of craftbeer and raise it up to the Seti Team and all my respected co crunchers! Bye to you all and see you in a different project. :) |

My last work units will be finished by the 2nd April and uploaded, thanks to all of those involved in SETI@home, to those of you who work and are unseen and to those of you who post in the forums. Thanks for the past 20+ years of keeping the dream alive. ![]() |

Hey everyone. I've been crunching since the 31st of May 1999 initially on a PowerMac G4 and ending up with 6 PC's and a MacPro. I've really enjoyed contributing to this project and hope something will come from all this work submitted by so many. Lots of great things have come and gone in this time and this is just another set to finish. Good luck everybody and fingers crossed the Project achieves exposure it deserves. Love from the UK (from someone born in New Zealand)…. |

Agreed. I read about the "special sauce" for so long, in January of this year (with significant hand-holding from Keith) got my first capable card running in Ubuntu. Three months is better than nothing. I went from 1 million credits over 18 years off and on to 7 million 3 months later. The frequent posters have been amazing at providing assistance to those of us who just drop by every so often. Hats off to so many for whom this isn't a hobby - it's a passion. |

It's been a great ride. Joined on 5/25/99. It took over 9 years for the first million WUs. Made 100,000,000 in November 2015. Then things really took off when I got competitive. Had hoped to hit 500M but all's well that ends well. I'm proud to retire in the top 50. Best to everyone. |

I wish scientists behind SETI@Home to write at least a few interesting scientific papers. Hopefully all these data contain something unexpected and interesting after all. Good luck! |
