Looks like nothing learned from Grenfell

Hate to be blunt but it wasn't Buckingham Palace that burned, so why would a lesson be learned?

Your country isn't like Las Vegas, where buildings are replaced in their entirety when someone wants a "new look."

The "it burns foam" sales people have a cheap quick way to make a building look new.

Of the profit, by the profit, for the profit. Governments have to grow spines to break that.

Well, at least we're not that bad compared to the States.

Don't doubt it a bit. And the boss wonders why none of his workers will return to work.

4th anniversary of the Grenfell fire.
And in all honesty nothing much has happened to improve the situation in most similar blocks.

Milan 18-storey apartment block goes up in flames
Sound familiar;
One resident said he had been assured that the building's panels were fireproof

Every tenant has reportedly been safely evacuated and accounted for, but firefighters are conducting a thorough search of the building to ensure no one has been trapped.

Police are looking for evidence of possible corporate manslaughter, in a long-running investigation, which will not conclude until the end of the public inquiry

Cladding: Panels failed fire tests 13 years before Grenfell
Leaked test results suggest the government and construction industry had early evidence of the dangers posed by cladding, 13 years before the Grenfell Tower fire.

Panels, commonly used on buildings in the UK, failed fire tests carried out in 2004.

The results, marked "Commercial in confidence", were circulated within an industry advisory group.

They were recently passed to the BBC and, until now, never made public.
Five cladding systems were tested, including one with aluminium panels, although the primary aim was not to assess the risk of particular designs

The aluminium and plastic cladding at Grenfell has been blamed for spreading the fire.

Two were constructed from high pressure laminate (HPL) boards, formed from wood, or paper fibre, widely used on modern apartment blocks in the UK.

In the tests, all five cladding systems were judged to have failed against "proposed performance criteria".

Most of the tests were carried out without using "fire breaks" - extra components which should be fitted to block the spread of flames.

However, fire breaks were used in one high pressure laminate panel system, but it still failed.

No action taken over 2009 warning

A training package developed in October 2015 which contained a warning about buildings which had been fitted with modern insulation materials was not rolled out, because the LFB encountered IT problems after upgrades to the Internet Explorer browser.

Message 2101942 - Posted: 24 Jun 2022, 22:52:35 UTC

A disabled man who lives in a London tower block says he feels like “a prisoner in his own home” after he had to be carried to his flat on the sixth floor.
Adam Gabsi, who lives in Harrow in north-west London, has multiple sclerosis and uses a wheelchair. The only way he can get to his flat independently is by using the lifts - and he says they regularly break down.
He has developed a fear of not being able to leave his block without assistance, something which plays on his mind given that 15 disabled people died in the Grenfell Tower fire of June 2017.
His landlord, housing association MTVH, says it shares residents' frustrations and is working to replace the lifts.
Surely, since Grenfell shouldn't all councils/housing associations ensure that all disabled be placed into ground floor flats. If none available for them to be transferred every time one comes available?

That would be great, but there a number of blocks that don't have living (or liveable) accommodation on their ground floor so there isn't as much of it available as one would expect. Perhaps it's time to start building more low rise affordable properties.
