More than 2 million pounds of chicken products recalled in eight states
https://www.cnn.com/2019/11/07/health/chicken-products-recall/index.html

(CNN) More than 2 million pounds of poultry products have been recalled in eight states over fears of contamination with foreign matter such as metal, federal health officials said.
Arkansas-based Simmons Prepared Foods, Inc. recalled the items produced from October 21 through November 4 this year. They are 2,071,397 pounds of poultry products, including ready to cook chicken whole legs, boneless skinless chicken, halal chicken leg quarters and chicken tenderloins, the US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service said Wednesday.
The products subject to recall have an establishment number "P-1949," "P- 486" or "P-5837" inside the USDA mark of inspection, and were shipped to Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Georgia, Minnesota, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania.
Those who've purchased the products are urged to throw them away or return them to the store.

‘Make Ebola a thing of the past’: First vaccine against deadly virus approved

The world finally has an Ebola vaccine. On 11 November, European regulators approved a vaccine that has already helped to control deadly outbreaks of the virus — the first time any immunization against Ebola has passed this hurdle.

I hope this vaccine works. :)

Watched a movie about ebola . Netflix. Heroic health workers fight to contain an Ebola outbreak when a patient arrives in Lagos with symptoms of the deadly virus. Based on a true story. * Four stars*

Two people just got the plague in China — yes, the Black Death plague
https://www.cnn.com/2019/11/13/health/china-plague-intl-hnk-scn-scli/index.html

(CNN)Two people in China are being treated for plague, authorities said Tuesday. It's the second time the disease, the same one that caused the Black Death, one of the deadliest pandemics in human history, has been detected in the region -- in May, a Mongolian couple died from bubonic plague after eating the raw kidney of a marmot, a local folk health remedy.

CDC: The number of Americans dying from antibiotic-resistant "superbugs" vastly underestimated

https://www.salon.com/2019/11/14/cdc-the-number-of-americans-dying-from-antibiotic-resistant-superbugs-vastly-underestimated/

Twice as many people are dying from antibiotic-resistant infections, also known as superbugs, than previously thought, according to a report published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The report, published on Wednesday, states that nearly 3.1 million antibiotic-resistant infections happen each year in the United States. As a result, an estimated 48,700 people die. The findings are based on data from millions of patient health records, and are an update to a 2013 report in which the public health agency raised concerns about these superbugs.

Nov. 21 (UPI) -- Health officials in Miami-Dade County, Fla., issued a mosquito-borne illness alert after doctors diagnosed another resident with dengue, a virus that has been seen in record numbers in the Americas this year.

The Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County said there have been 11 cases of the virus in the county so far in 2019.

The dengue virus is spread to humans through mosquito bites and can cause flu-like symptoms, including fever, aches, pain, nausea and rash, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says.

Suspected norovirus outbreak closes 46 Colorado schools
All 46 schools in the district serving Grand Junction and the surrounding area were closed Thursday and Friday.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Thousands of students in western Colorado are out of school because of a suspected outbreak of norovirus.

All 46 schools in the district serving Grand Junction and the surrounding area were closed Thursday and Friday and won’t reopen until after the scheduled Thanksgiving break to allow custodians to disinfect all surfaces.

Norovirus is a highly contagious bug that causes diarrhea, vomiting and other symptoms and can spread quickly in public places. It's more common in winter but can be seen any time of year.

Thanks Gary, for your update.
