I think that shows we need a return to something like the old CEGB. Texas has shown us how 'The Market' isn't up to the job of optimal capacity management.

Right to repair
Waste of time.
When I got passed my dual core rig I also received a nice HP all in one printer.
Only problem with it was that it needed a new printhead.
Cost £124
New printer £140
Felt the £16 difference wasn't worth the effort of the fiddly task of removing & replacing.

Add in gratuitous design to 'customize' the parts to make them deliberately unique to a particular manufacturer and we have the very profitable dongled ink-jet cartridge game of everything...

That's an obvious 'dodge' that should already be covered in the anti-competitiveness legislation... Except...

There has to be a better way for the good of everyone?

There are consequences:

Then and now: Arctic sea-ice feeling the heat
wrote:
... The shrinking sea-ice in the Arctic is not only a sign of climate change, it is causing the planet to warm more quickly. This is because more sunlight is being absorbed by the darker ocean, rather than being reflected back into space...

... The sea-ice is estimated to reflect 80% of sunlight [and hence the sun's heat] back into space...

... This, in turn, would also affect weather patterns in the global climate system.

All happening, RIGHT NOW.

Is there a game being played in bubble economics to continue to subsidize the ever more unprofitable unsustainable dirty old fossils?...

Formula 1 is debating the way forward for its Power Units for 2025 onwards. It is clear that F1 the FIA and engine manufacturers are not convinced that the goal of several countries to phase out carbon fueled engines is possible, for several reasons.

An article on the subject is at https://www.racefans.net/2021/07/07/will-f1-commit-to-radical-new-engines-that-depends-on-new-engine-makers-committing-to-f1/

Six words come to mind "head", "sand", "ostriches", "elephants", "coming", "bury".
One may have to rearrange them to get any sense of the phrase, but I'm sure some here will get it quite quickly.

How about a tax on dumb ideas that get implemented? {Beyond Meat boss backs tax on meat consumption}

That is not at all so daft. Unless you also consider taxes upon polluters to be 'not worthwhile'...

Less animal meat and more plant 'meat' means less water required, less farm pollution, even more so for less pollution due to less agribusiness fertilizers, and better health and better health financially for those eating such produce.

That looks to be a good win all-round.

Unless that is you are suckered by the Marketing hype that somehow you must eat animals to somehow be 'Embiggened'?

How can the Deniers deny this?

China flood death toll rises sharply to over 300
wrote:
... About 50 people remain missing after the region was engulfed by severe flooding caused by heavy rainfall.

Almost 13 million people were affected and nearly 9,000 homes were damaged.

The majority of the deaths were reported in the city of Zhengzhou where floodwater inundated the city's subway system and vehicles were swept away.

The city reported a year's rainfall within the space of three days...

Iran water: What's causing the shortages?
wrote:
Protests in Iran against a range of grievances - including a severe lack of water and power blackouts - have drawn attention to the country's wider water problems.

Experts have raised concerns about the situation for many years, so what's to blame for Iran's water crisis?

UK already undergoing disruptive climate change
wrote:
The UK is already undergoing disruptive climate change with increased rainfall, sunshine and temperatures...

... “A lot of people think climate change is in the future – but this proves the climate is already changing here in the UK.

“As it continues to warm we are going to see more and more extreme weather such as heatwaves and floods.” ...

The style of the media reporting is rather irksome in that "scientists" are quoted as though somehow it is the scientists that are to blame!

Meanwhile, does noone know or appreciate the sad story of Cassandra?...

My thoughts on the problem with meat is not that we eat meat, it is that we eat too much.
The British Army said when I was in that 5oz/day (140gm/day) was the ration when in barracks during peacetime.

So when you have that quarter pounder you should realise that you have just eaten nearly all your meat ration for the day. And if you had bacon at breakfast then you are already over the top and you haven't even got to your evening meal yet.

I'll be providing good health for the planet after I've passed on. All that lovely food for the worms & fertiliser for the soil. :-)

Sorry, no attack intended. Read as "for an example" of an all too often used line of Marketing?

Which doesn't offset the industrial scale multiplication factor of the resources consumed using animals to process plant foods into a Marketed 'luxury'.

Simply, cattle are ridiculously costly for water and land use and for pollution. Additionally, excessive consumption of their meat kills people prematurely and is very costly for a lot of extra health care that is consequently required.

All fantastic good big business, including a lot of very dubious Marketing.

All rather unhealthy for our planet and ourselves...

As is usually the case, good moderation is good. And then we have Marketing...
