The Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing (BOINC) system is the software infrastructure used by Einstein@Home and many other volunteer distributed computing projects. The BOINC Open Source Project is looking for volunteers to develop and maintain the BOINC client on macOS. The BOINC Client and Manager are C++ cross-platform code supporting Microsoft Windows, macOS, Linux, and several other operating systems. We currently have a number of volunteer developers supporting Windows and Linux, but our main macOS developer is winding down his involvement after many years. He is prepared to help a few new macOS developers get up to speed. If you have macOS development experience and are interested in volunteering time to help support and maintain the BOINC macOS client please have a look at the more detailed description here: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/MacDeveloper If you want to help, please sign up to the BOINC Developer email list here: https://groups.google.com/a/ssl.berkeley.edu/forum/#!forum/boinc_dev. If you are not a macOS developer, but have other skills and are interested in contributing to BOINC, the link above also has more general information. Thank you! @SETIEric@qoto.org (Mastodon) |

How is Apple's announcement today that by 2021 all programs will be cross platform and run on Desktop Mac's, iPads and iPhone's going to alter this? As I understand it because BOINC could be used for virtual mining it does not qualify for Apple's iPhone store. Is there a plan in the works to mitigate Apple's concerns? Or are we simply going to not be able to run BOINC on Mac desktops at some point? |

I don´t see Apple closing down the Mac platform in that way they did with iOS from the beginning. The Marzipan project for unifying macOS and iOS applications brings new API and ABI libraries/frameworks but does not force anybody to strictly use them. Apple currently does not lock out applications from outside their App Store and will certainly not go that way in the future. So the only nuisance with unsigned apps from outside the App Store will be that on first run the user will have to voluntarily bypass gatekeeper check. |

As an experienced copy editor at the Delaware State News (www.newszap.com), I wish to offer my services to the project as a copy reader/copy editor. As bad grammar reflects negatively on our efforts, I would like to help correct such occurrences: From the post dated 2/23/2019 11:29:57 PM SETI@home: New forum, and a new contributor. from outside from outside the solar system. We hope [] have a long collaborationshould read: from outside the solar system. We hope to have a long collaboration. . . In short, removing the duplicative statement 'from outside' and inserting 'to' helps us maintain coherence. I say you should take on Starwatcher Rick. It looks like the author of the post he quoted was drunk! |
