More fuel added to the fire. :-(

2 officers shot in Louisville as protests erupt nationwide over Breonna Taylor case.

Does nothing get learnt from in the U.S.?

Or will it take a full on civil war before that happens?

What a _______ mess.

Police make a dubious case to a judge to do a "no knock" raid on Breonna Taylor's house,
Judge authorises raid.
Police batter on the front door.
Breonna Taylor's boyfriend thinks criminals are attacking, calls 911, and fires legally under common law self-defense "defending castle" law , with legally owned firearm at unknown attackers. Hitting police Sgt in thigh, severing artery.
Door collapses and two policemen open fire legally under self-defense law.
Breonna Taylor is shot several times and dies.
Another police officer fires through window, with drapes drawn, doesn't hit Breonna Taylor.

Cases against Breonna Taylor's boy friend and the two policemen have to be dropped as they all fired legally under the self defense laws.
The third officer cannot be charged with killing Breonna Taylor because he didn't hit her. He is though charged with firing recklessly because his bullets went into an adjoining property.

So really the true criminals are the lawmakers who don't think through the consequences of their actions. Probably because their ambition exceeds their capabilities, nothing new there.

Nothing new really, it's always been controversial.
Met to be sued
Stop & Search 2019
Got stopped many a time back in the 70's. Didn't like getting searched in public & always refused.
Until one day, they took me up on what I said. (I'll allow myself to be searched at a station - most of the time, they let me continue on home.) Oh did I say I was on my way home from the trains?
Didn't get in the car with them but turned around & walked back (Station was approx. 8-10 min walk from where I got stopped).
Arrived at station & explained the situation to the duty sergeant who then started going through my equipment bag. Seeing the big LT symbol on the front, he stopped, looked at me ( I removed my overcoat) & stared at my uniform. Then asked me a question:
"Why are you walking as you got free travel"
Me:
Just stabled the last train in the depot, & had to rely on the night buses to get home. They were one an hour. Got to the area where stopped & as I missed the one that took me home, walked - time 25 min, next bus in 1 hour. What would you do?"
He stopped the search & told me to go home.
The best one in my view was the stop about 8 months later, As I refused, they nicked me.
A week later standing before the magistrate who was not a happy chappie, told me that I had to allow the police to do their job.
When he got told that I was prepared to be searched at a police station but the officers concerned wouldn't have it, he threw the case out.

To this day I still can't see anything in their powers that disallow that as one can see from the updated powers amended last year.
Too many cops in East London those days were more bent than a 10 bob note.
I can't see much has changed since then.
Oh, I eventually ending up buying a motorbike & used it mainly when on dead late turns & on the rare occasions where I had to do early turns.

But in the face of criticism the government added an amendment, specifying that Article 24 "will only target the dissemination of images clearly aimed at harming a police officer's or soldier's physical or psychological integrity".
People found guilty could be punished by a year in prison or a fine of up to €45,000 (£40,000).

Yes this new amendment is not a good look at all to most of us around the world, in fact it looks more like trying to protect bad cops. :-(

A timely reminder which shows that not much has changed since.
It seems that rule of law overrides collaboration with the enemy.
Barrister Patrick O'Connor QC, who took up the case pro bono, said: "It was a longstanding injustice for which the courts were responsible, and which the courts should therefore remedy."
In its ruling, the Privy Council said: "There are a number of difficulties with this application, including the fact that the complaint of mistreatment inducing confessions could have been raised before the Privy Council in 1955, but was not."
The appeal was refused in March of this year.

Feds to investigate after a sheriff's deputy killed a Black man entering his own home in Columbus, Ohio.

A sheriff's deputy working for a fugitive task force shot and killed a Black man trying to enter his own home in Columbus, Ohio, last week in a case that is now being investigated by federal authorities.
Casey Goodson, 23, was fatally shot on Friday by a 17-year veteran of the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, identified as deputy Jason Meade. Meade was working for the US Marshal's fugitive task force looking for violent offenders at the time, but Goodson was not the person being sought by the task force, Columbus Police said.
Goodson had put his keys into his door before he was shot and fell into the kitchen, where his 5-year-old brother and his 72-year-old grandmother saw him lying on the ground with a Subway sandwich, family attorney Sean Walton told CNN.
Goodson, an Ohio concealed carry permit holder, was legally armed at the time of the shooting, according to the Columbus Division of Police. Goodson was not alleged to have committed any crimes, has no criminal background and was not the target of any investigation, Walton told CNN.
During the US Marshal's task force operation in Columbus, Meade reported seeing a man with a gun and was investigating the situation when there was reportedly a verbal exchange prior to the shooting, the Columbus Division of Police said.
According to police, no other officers witnessed the shooting, no civilian eyewitnesses have been identified and there is no body camera footage of the actual shooting because Franklin County Sheriff's task force officers aren't issued body cameras.
