I agree with Chris that no alien message was found and probably will never be found. I am running 5 BOINC projects Einstein, SETI, SourceFinder,Climateprediction.net,LHC@home which has 5 subprojects under the same umbrella and uses VirtualBox, like SourceFinder. I am still running SETI@home both on CPUs and GPUs, and Einstein@home for the same reason. The SETI message boards are the liveliest of all my projects, which are often very boring. I have made some friends and I like contributing to the Italian Cafe, although no other Italian cares to write. I shall miss you Chris. Tullio |

Except for a couple of hidden computers, of course. Make it a project, and next you also are supposed to be stating a couple of goals for it as well. https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/sah_about.php " . . . therefore, has an insatiable appetite for computing power". True, except for not making it both the fork and knife for next eyes which could also see, and next also making it science, when it also could be something else. Except for nonsense, of course. For this, so long my friend, except for perhaps not any "welcome back" either, because if perhaps so, at least we made it a bit of time together here. See you, Chris and wish you all the best in your life. |

I wish you would reconsider, Chris. You are a dear friend, and I would miss your presence here. Surely the new data sources we have now and coming in the future should continue your interest and our chances, though admittedly slim, of finding a signal of interest. Maybe just cut back to a small contribution of computing, rather than abandon Seti entirely? Please do give it some more thought. Best wishes regardless, Mark "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

It's possible to quit crunching without leaving the forums, of course. For a short while, yes. But eventually the RAC falls below 5 and posting goes away. |

It's possible to quit crunching without leaving the forums, of course. Do what I am doing now. I went to Walmart and bought a cheap 8 inch android tablet and am running 2 CPU wu's. It isn't much. But my rac is postible. |

It's possible to quit crunching without leaving the forums, of course. Did someone change something? I've seen people post until their RAC dropped below 1. Cheers. |

Nothing changed. It's still 1 at least up to a few weeks ago when I hit 1. Soon after it went to 0.56, no posts allowed :-( |

Chris -- I'm 81 years old, and am a member of the quake-catcher network (almost defunct, with approx. 1700 members), but intend to remain, in the hopes that some funding can be had for its continuation. That funding hasn't a chance, if everyone should quit. I do have reservations on whether we (Earthlings) should try to contact aliens, considering that we can't treat our own peoples with proper respect. But, try, we should. A few words to you -- and I've enjoyed reading your enlightening comments, over the years -- would be to not throw in the towel. I intend to do so, only when I enter the Bourne National Cemetery, in a few years, from now. In the mean time, will keep plugging away (stiff upper lip, and all that). Keep enlightening us with your perspective! Cheers, jim m. |

The knowledge gained from any failure of SETI@home only contributes to successes in science in the future. The human condition motivates us humans to learn about everything and continue despite the overwhelming odds until we humans finally succeed. Many of the things we take for granted today, are the direct result of this human behavior. Things like computers, light bulbs, telephones and airplanes are among them. While the next WOW signal may be a long time in coming or we could Receive the next WOW Signal in the next 5 Minuets. or even if it takes Generations of Humans, SETI@home is still worth while. The only requirement is that we try. The probability of success is difficult to estimate, but if we never try, the chance of success is, zero. Best wishes and good luck to us all, Byron. |

Ladies & Gentlemen, There are two other possibilities. 6. Seti only examines the watering hole frequencies. We don't broadcast with any power on these frequencies so why should we expect ET to do so. 7. If I recall correctly. Inverse square law reduces the power so much that we may not see much beyond 100 light years. This really reduces the number of stars we can examine unless somebody broadcast at really high (expensive) power levels. Money may be as much of an issue for ET as it is for us. That said, I still have hope something will turn up and while we are waiting, Astro pulse is looking for things other than ET. While I haven't been posting lately because I have been very busy on another site, I drop by here from time to time and I will miss you Chris. |
