A cow escaped the rodeo and disappeared into an Anchorage park. For 6 months, no one has been able to catch her.

That looks very hungry weather for cows.

We also have an escapee:

'Escape artist' rhea on the run for weeks in Oxfordshire

The large flightless bird, named Chris, was seen in the road at Chiltern Bank, Peppard Common, on Sunday.

PC Simon Pink said a number of people had called about the rhea, but efforts to capture it had been unsuccessful.

In a tweet Thames Valley Police compared the situation to the comedy film Hot Fuzz, in which officers are tasked with recovering a swan.

No luck catching them rheas then? :)

Raccoon injured by subway train disrupts service for hours
A raccoon took a stroll on some Bronx subway tracks and was injured by a train Friday, halting service for several hours, city transit officials said.
... The raccoon was removed alive, MTA officials said.

No it seems not, DLL :) I think birds that expect to fly but find they can't are a lot easier to catch than ones that know they can't, so don't.

@Mashka: That story warmed my heart to near-bursting, Sirius. Thank you :) What a horrible start in life she had though :(

@Dr Who Fan: I don't suppose there's any news on the raccoon...? I'd almost given up thinking I'd find out what happened with the beluga whale that strayed up the Thames last year, but just did a quick search, and he's still hanging about apparently, or was mid-December anyway.

Apparently it is an occurrence known as a "Rainbow Bridge" (among other scientific names)

Okay, but it reminds me of a rocket launch from Vandenberg AFB to a polar orbit.

It is not. Image taken from an article that explained it that is beyond my ability to repeat let alone understand.
