"A raging bull must be stopped."
https://www.svt.se/nyheter/utrikes/analys-en-ilsken-tjur-maste-stoppas
In the context of background talks with French diplomats, it is clear that France is now pushing for clear countermeasures from the EU. Pointing at President Trump, a diplomat says that "an angry bull must be stopped with hard actions, concessions are nothing that impresses with a bull".
The EU takes care of all trade negotiations for the 28 member states, and EU trade commissioner Cecilia Malmström is therefore a key player. The EU has prepared responses to increased tariffs on US goods from regions in the United States governed by Donald Trump's Republican Party Partners. It's about EU customs on American whiskey, motorcycles, peanut butter, jeans and more.
Cecilia Malmström says that EU countries do not negotiate under threat from Donald Trump. But in some way, Cecilia Malmström and the EU have to enter into a negotiating track with President Trump, while the EU countries together agree on how tough response will be.

US Trade Minister Wilbur Ross did not state what the US wanted the EU concessions to be in order to possibly lift the steel and aluminum tariffs. (Trump tactics?)
There will be litigation with the WTO in any case.

Strong reactions to US tariffs.
"This decision is not in accordance with international trade law, so it's illegal," said France's president Emmanuel Macron.
The EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker calls the customs decision "completely unacceptable".
At a press conference, Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called US customs for "totally unacceptable" and he specifically speaks of the United States argument for national security to justify his action.
"These charges are a disgrace of the long-term security cooperation between Canada and the United States, and in particular a disgrace of the thousands of Canadians who have been killed and died side by side with their American cousins.
Mexico's Foreign Minister Luis Videgaray says that the country will continue to negotiate Nafta despite Washington's "unfair and unilateral" tariffs.
Christine Lagarde warns, at an ongoing meeting with the G7 Group in Quebec, in Canada, for consequences if world trade is "massively disturbed".
"Those who will be suffering are the poorest, the least privileged people, those who are actually dependent on imported goods for their living.

We find that the tariffs would result in a net loss of nearly 470,000 U.S. jobs after accounting for positive impacts on U.S. steel and aluminum producers. Overall, more than 18 jobs would be lost for every one gained.

Well the first of America's "routine" excuses used.
Mr Trump claimed the tariffs would protect US steelmakers, which were vital to national security.
When will we see the 2nd? Nice to see a Yank agree with the rest of the world's view that America "screws over its friends while kissing the ass of its enemies".
Opposition to the tariffs was also voiced by prominent Republicans. House Speaker Paul Ryan, the most influential Republican in Congress, said the move "targets America's allies when we should be working with them to address the unfair trading practices of countries like China".

Not content with causing a global financial meltdown, they now want a global depression

And the United Steelworkers don't support the Trump administration's latest steel-tariffs move, which extends the duties to Canada. "This decision is unacceptable and calls into serious question the design and direction of the administration's trade policy.
Donald Trump tweeted "FAIR TRADE!"
Carl Bildt answered "LESS TRADE! SLOWER GROWTH! FEWER JOBS!"

National security?
Well congratulation America.
The price of a F35 just gone up with 9%.
An aircraft carrier gone up with even more.

Ok. I know that Trump is a Genius and also from Karlstad, Värmland but it doesn't seem to help.
Here is US tariffs simplified.

"It's a very unfortunate decision by the United States. This will cause major damage to our steel and aluminum industries. The decision harms jobs within the EU and in the United States, "said Cecilia Malmström when she opened the Friday press conference.
The United States refers to US security interests, an argument Malmström think is irrelevant.
"It's clean and cutting protectionism".
Now, EU are going to report the United States decision to the World Trade Organization, where a court will determine if the United States is entitled to impose duties or if they are incorrect.
Malmström also mentioned China as a problematic player in the steel trade. She lifted China's overcapacity in steel production, and their patent rules that require European companies in China to transfer ownership to Chinese companies. That will be reported to the WTO as well.
Now, the EU is looking at the introduction of response tariffs. Such may not come into force until 20 June.

The list of the products that EU will tax in late June.
Maize in various forms
Beans
Rice in various forms
peanut butter
Orange juice
Cranberry juice
Bourbon Whiskey (for example Jack Daniels, Jim Beam)
Tobacco Products
Cosmetics
Cotton t-shirts
Jeans
Steel and aluminum products such as pipes, steel tanks, nuts, plates
Heavy motorcycles (Harley Davidson)
Leisure boats
Playing cards and video games for amusement parks, pool tables and casino games.

Maybe some wonder why these products.
Actually because these products are made of companies that endorse Trump or are produced in Trump friendly states.

The consequences of the Trump administration’s steel and aluminum tariffs are already being felt across global markets. But the makers of one iconic American product say they stand to suffer more than most: bourbon whiskey distillers.

G6+1 meeting...
First negotiates, agrees and signs a statement. Then revokes the entire thing with an inflight tweet.
Donald J. Trump@realDonaldTrump
Based on Justin’s false statements at his news conference, and the fact that Canada is charging massive Tariffs to our U.S. farmers, workers and companies, I have instructed our U.S. Reps not to endorse the Communique as we look at Tariffs on automobiles flooding the U.S. Market!

The completely unintelligent, uninformed and suicidal Never Trumping European/Canadian, et al Leaders [sic] and the Media are his greatest asset inside the USA and they haven't a clue.
Trump is very unintelligent and uninformed.
https://mobile.nytimes.com/2018/06/09/opinion/debacle-in-quebec.html
He didn’t put America first; Russia first would be a better description. And he didn’t demand drastic policy changes from our allies; he demanded that they stop doing bad things they aren’t doing. This wasn’t a tough stance on behalf of American interests, it was a declaration of ignorance and policy insanity.
Trump demanded that the other G7 members remove their “ridiculous and unacceptable” tariffs on U.S. goods – which would be hard for them to do, because their actual tariff rates are very low. The European Union, for example, levies an average tariff of only three percent on US goods. Who says so? The U.S. government’s own guide to exporters.

All that politically matters to the USA. Is what happens in the USA. As with all nations.
That is why no peoples should for the sake of humanity give great power to, nor trust any 'Leadership'.

Both are correct.

It took awhile. But you are finally understanding both Leadership [sic] and that people of all Nations, firstly care about themselves.
In the years you've been here, that statement shows quite clearly your lack of comprehension.

I'm quite sane actually but can't stop chuckling at asinine statements. With your wealth of knowledge & experience, it saddens one to see that knowledge & experience wasted on disparaging views of others rather than "intellectually" conversing & providing possible solutions/sensible compromises to various issues.

Is that the best you can offer?
