The Genius Trump has now yet again showed his diplomatic skills...
Taliban visits Moscow days after Trump says talks ‘dead’
https://apnews.com/8c285a3bcaac4c978b5378db54ed9166
“This is a notable development, as it suggests the Taliban wants to underscore its continued interest in dialogue, even after President Trump pulled the plug on the US-Taliban talks,” said Michael Kugelman, deputy director of the Asia Program at the Washington-based Wilson Center. “And how striking that the insurgents have chosen to telegraph a message of conciliation by engaging with Moscow, a key U.S. rival that has made great efforts to deepen ties with the Taliban in recent months.”

Moscow not Rump. Moscow want Rump out of oil lands. Moscow want all oil for Moscow! Just wonder if Putin reminded Rump of a video tape?

Yes. Afghanistan is actually a rich country with lots of oil.
The United States Geological Survey and the Afghan Ministry of Mines and Industry jointly assessed the oil and natural gas resources in northern Afghanistan. The estimated mean volumes of undiscovered petroleum were 1,596 million barrels (Mbbl) of crude oil, 444 billion cubic meters of natural gas, and 562 Mbbl of natural gas liquids.
And other natural resources as well..
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mining_in_Afghanistan
Afghanistan has abundant non-fuel mineral resources, including both known and potential deposits of a wide variety of minerals ranging from copper, iron, and sulfur to bauxite, lithium, and rare-earth elements. It was announced in 2010 that about $1 trillion in untapped mineral deposits were identified in Afghanistan, enough to fundamentally alter the Afghan economy. According to other reports the total mineral riches of Afghanistan may be worth over $3 trillion US dollars." The previously unknown deposits — including huge veins of iron, copper, cobalt, gold, and critical industrial metals like lithium — are so big and include so many minerals that are essential to modern industry that Afghanistan could eventually be transformed into one of the most important mining centers in the world". The deposits were described in the USGS report on Afghanistan in 2007. Afghan President Hamid Karzai remarked "Whereas Saudi Arabia is the oil capital of the world, Afghanistan will be the lithium capital of the world."
Putin want it of course. Trump as well, but with his incompetence he will lose it all...

This as far as Trump is concerned this must be a fake news story, because he is doing so much to support coal production and all the mining jobs, or more realistically the economics have trumped Trump's ideas.

Idle mines portend dark days for top US coal region
GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) — At two of the world’s biggest coal mines, the finances got so bad that their owner couldn’t even get toilet paper on credit.

Fetid smell left today. It will take it a while to blow across the country to DC, the source will get there sooner.

Dust Bowl? Lies!]

If it smells corrupt it probably is.
That does not matter to the base, what matters is how they feel.
The base feels that they have been screwed which is true.
What they want is go back to the past which privileged them. The thought of a more progressive solution which would benefit more so far has evaded them.

<fixed>What they want is go back to the past which privileged them and is simple so they can understand. Thinking of a more progressive solution which would benefit themselves [and others] more is beyond comprehension.

Read some Thorstein Veblen. He posits That the motivating factor is not how well you are doing but how much better you are doing relative to others.
IE, I would rater to be less well off as long as others are worse off. In this case it seems to apply.

Yes, if they could survive nuclear winter but everyone else didn't, no matter how bad the conditions were in nuclear winter, they would opt for it.

One reason and one reason only Rump is killing the California standards, his buddies in Germany don't want the California Air Resources Board being able to look for their emissions test defeat software. Wonder just how much stock Rump owns in these companies. Don't know, Rump won't release his taxes. Funny how he wants to MAGA but it is his offshore investments he is protecting, not American jobs!
