I went years without a crash, but recently allowed BOINC to fetch GPU tasks and now I am seeing my system crash maybe weekly. This time, I came to the computer first thing in the morning, moved the mouse and boom. When it rebooted, I see four suspended GPU tasks: 81.081% GPU suspended - computer is in use (0.0111 CPUs + 1 Intel GPU) 03:24:25 AstroPulse v7 7.07 (opencl_intel_gpu_mac) 0.000% GPU suspended - computer is in use (0.00334 CPUs + 1 intel GPU) --- SETI@home v8 8.00 (opencl_intel_gpu_sah) 0.000% GPU suspended - computer is in use (0.00334 CPUs + 1 intel GPU) --- SETI@home v8 8.00 (opencl_intel_gpu_sah) 0.000% GPU suspended - computer is in use (0.00334 CPUs + 1 intel GPU) --- SETI@home v8 8.00 (opencl_intel_gpu_sah) Sun Oct 1 07:58:52 2017 *** Panic Report *** panic(cpu 2 caller 0xffffff8001336364): "a freed zone element has been modified in zone kalloc.160: expected 0xffffff80420e2a00 but found 0xc0ffee7dd1c57c9f, bits changed 0x3f0011fd93cb569f, at offset 152 of 160 in element 0xffffff80420e2780, cookies 0x3f0011fd93cb569e 0x53521cee2a32def"@/Library/Caches/com.apple.xbs/Sources/xnu/xnu-3789.70.16/osfmk/kern/zalloc.c:650 BSD process name corresponding to current thread: WindowServer System Profile: AirPort: spairport_wireless_card_type_airport_extreme (0x14E4, 0x10E), Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (7.21.171.130.1a1) Bluetooth: Version 5.0.5f1, 3 services, 27 devices, 1 incoming serial ports Thunderbolt Bus: Mac mini, Apple Inc., 23.4 Memory Module: BANK 0/DIMM0, 8 GB, DDR3, 1600 MHz, 0x0000, 0x563031443353463847423532383532383136 Memory Module: BANK 1/DIMM0, 8 GB, DDR3, 1600 MHz, 0x0000, 0x563031443353463847423532383532383136 Model: Macmini6,2, BootROM MM61.0106.B1F, 4 processors, Intel Core i7, 2.6 GHz, 16 GB, SMC 2.8f0 Network Service: Ethernet, Ethernet, en0 Network Service: iPhone, Ethernet, en4 Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000, Intel HD Graphics 4000, Built-In |

The Problem is the Intel iGPU. It has been proven numerous times it's not worth using on most machines. Besides Slowing down the CPU by a factor of 2, it produces the Wrong results on most machines. Your machine is one where it doesn't work as can be seen by the number of Inconclusive results, Validation pending (17) · Validation inconclusive (17) · Valid (23). I wouldn't even recommend trying to use it at a different Project as it will most probably produce the same results and still slow down the CPU. The best action would be to just uncheck Use Intel GPU in your preferences. |
