We rarely talk about what's going on along the ring of fire. At a friend's suggestion, I'm thinking of going to Mexico to see the eruption of Popocatépetl. Looks like several volcanoes in Central America are erupting too. I'm considering investing in the Lake Chapal region. or maybe San Miguel de Allende. The US is just not what it used to be.

There he blows.

Dozens of flights cancelled as Indonesia's Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki erupts.

About three three dozen flights between Australia and Bali have been cancelled or delayed following a massive eruption of one of Indonesia's most active volcanoes.

Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki spewed hot ash and smoke reaching 10,000 metres high when it erupted on Tuesday evening, affecting airspace between the two countries.

About a dozen Jetstar flights between capital cities and Bali scheduled for Wednesday morning were cancelled, while flight trackers showed delays of up to three hours for about another dozen flights scheduled this afternoon and evening....

.....Indonesia's Geology Agency said in a written statement that the volcano unleashed 10,000 metres of thick grey clouds on Tuesday afternoon, following significant volcanic activity.

It reported 50 deep volcanic earthquakes in 2 hours, compared to the daily average of eight to 10 events.

A previous eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki Laki in November killed nine people and injured dozens......
People planning to fly to the region are still being advised to check with their carriers as to travel restrictions in the affected area.

Indonesia's Semeru volcano erupts prompting aviation warning in Australia.

A volcanic eruption in Indonesia has prompted an aviation warning in Australia, after ash spewed some 2 kilometres into the sky.

Indonesia's Mount Semeru volcano, Java Island's tallest mountain, erupted on Wednesday, local time, prompting authorities there to raise the threat level to its highest.

The country's volcanology agency said ash clouds reached some 5.6 km into the sky, roughly 2 km higher than the mountain peak, adding residents should keep to a 2.5 km distance away for safety.

More than 300 residents at risk in the district of Lumajang were evacuated to government shelters, National Disaster Mitigation Agency's spokesperson Abdul Muhari said.

The eruption that unfolded throughout the day blanketed several villages but no casualties were reported.....

Japan is still rocking.

Tsunami warning for northern Japan after magnitude 6.7 earthquake.

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.7 hit Japan's north-eastern region on Friday, prompting a tsunami advisory for waves up to 1 metre high from the Japan Meteorological Agency.

The quake occurred off the east coast of Aomori prefecture, in the north of Honshu, the main Japanese island, at a depth of 20 kilometres at 11:44am (Tokyo time), the agency said.

Officials were urging people living near the coast to evacuate inland, Japanese broadcaster NHK reported.

Sendai City in the north-eastern prefecture of Miyagi issued an evacuation order.

Friday's quake followed a 7.5 magnitude earthquake earlier this week in the north that caused injuries, light damage and a tsunami in Pacific coastal communities......
