Gun deaths seem viral as well. Crimea massacre earlier this autumn closely fits Columbine pattern. Left, Columbine massacre shooter Eric Harris. Middle, Zero Hour TV dramatization. Right, Kerch shooter Vladislav Roslyakov. |

No Problem Clyde. Next: Erie County Health Commissioner Gale Burstein said 185 students at Transit Middle School and Williamsville South High School in Amherst and St. Mary School in Swormville may have been exposed to a school staff person diagnosed with tuberculosis. Notifications have been sent to the parents of all students exposed, she said. Tuberculosis is a bacterial infection that usually affects the lungs. Students in danger of being infected are those who would have been close enough to inhale the bacteria from the infected person while that person was speaking, coughing or sneezing. https://buffalonews.com/2018/12/12/williamsville-school-students-notified-about-tuberculosis-case/ |

Deadly Ebola cousin Marburg found in West African bats Marburg virus, a deadly cousin of Ebola virus, has been found for the first time in bats in west Africa, U.S. researchers said Thursday. The discovery means Marburg is a threat in west Africa — where a giant epidemic of Ebola infected 28,000 people and killed 11,000 of them in 2014-2016. The region is crisscrossed by roads and paths and people travel across borders to towns and cities, making it easier to spread outbreaks of infectious disease. Usually outbreaks of Ebola and Marburg are in isolated regions and have been less likely to spread. https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/deadly-ebola-cousin-marburg-found-west-african-bats-n950331 |

CDC reports high flu virus activity Flu season has officially started. The CDC is reporting some areas are starting to see high virus activity. As of now, only two states are in the red: Georgia and Colorado. That means they're experiencing high flu activity. In our area, New Jersey is seeing moderate activity. That's a step below high activity. And Pennsylvania and Delaware are still at low activity. I've had the flu type A & B. Scary. Thanks Nick, and Happy Holidays to you. |

Congo's Ebola outbreak exceeds 600 cases, WHO says VIENNA There are now more than 600 confirmed or probable cases of Ebola in Congo, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Friday. The majority of new cases occurred in cities and urban areas in eastern North Kivu province, where an Ebola outbreak was declared in August. Numerous militia groups are fighting for control over the country's rich natural resources in the province, hampering efforts to combat the epidemic in the impoverished nation. Mass protests that erupted in recent days over a delay in Congo's presidential elections have also frustrated the work of aid officials. https://www.courant.com/nation-world/sns-tns-bc-congola-ebola-20190104-story.html |
