I remember those...........rather stout little phones. I carry a cheap Samsung flip phone these days. Not sure if those Nokias would work well in the pants pocket without a cover. Unless they have a keylock, dunno. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." |

I have a Nokia 1110. I had one before but I fell over it while skiing and broke the display. I just transferred the SIM to a new one and it works, But the battery seems to lose its charge and I have to recharge it after 2 days. I don't want to buy a smartphone, even if I could use it for BOINC. But two scientists from Tel Aviv University and Harvard say that smartphones could be used to register a Fast Radio Burst in our Galaxy. If every smartphone on the Earth failed at the same moment this could mean that we have been hit by a Fast Radio Burst, the latest astrophysical mystery. Tullio |

I still have my Nokia NHK-1XA (Using the traditional technique for confirming the date the photo was taken) Phew - the details match the one in the Science Museum: I still use the number I got with this phone, though not usually this handset any more. |

... like a lifebelt ...Those should be fitted as standard. I nearly got swept into the canal yesterday by a young mother sashaying down the towpath, texting with one hand and pushing a buggy with the other. |

As a 50-y-o with a smart phone, the times I'm most tickled to have it are when I'm talking to a person or group and some subject will come up about which no one is certain of the fact, so I pull out my phone and Google it. It's also useful having my calendar at hand when I'm in a doctor's office scheduling my next appointment. It's also good for listening to audiobooks. Having Facebook on it is mostly just a boredom reliever. David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri. |

And she probably recited a large section of her imaginary version of your family treeActually, she looked up and apologised. We were passing port-to-port, with a safe clearance, when the buggy hit a pothole and swerved towards me (and the canal). The moral is more to keep both hands on the ... (what do buggies have?) ... wheel? handlebars? grips? at all times when negotiating rough terrain. |

That was my reference exactly - although 'upstream' is a bit of a moot point for a canal which runs dead level for the next 15 miles or so. |

@ Chris I seem to remember you having a thread rant about not being a data center. I have a iPhone 4S, iPad and a desktop all 24/7/365 internet connected. |

True story, Jan 27 my oldest monitor died. Buried in my spare room I had an apx 20 yr old Nokia 447x crt monitor. I hooked it up and the color depth and contrast puts to shame my Dell ultrasharp U2412M. What a treat for the eyes. |

You're all a load of street cred posers :-)) I finally bit the bullet and got one of those darn smarty-pants phone thingies. I begrudgingly admit that there are aspects of this technology that I now find very convenient. If that makes me a street cred poser, well... so be it. |

You're all a load of street cred posers :-)) You are not a cred poser. I have a iPhone 4S on charge and a iPad I'm posting on right now. My cruncher is down ATM. So these smart tech items are keeping me connected for now. Just out of curiosity. What phone did you get? |

Poop. I dropped my fairly smart phone (Samsung Galaxy Note 4) once too often on Saturday. The screen has a few hairline cracks that I could easily ignore, but it won't turn on. The phone still functions and some of its functions are still usable through my not so smart watch, but a lot are not. So, after work today I went out and got a new Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. Now comes the long and tedious chore of setting up all the accounts and apps and passwords again. But the first one I have to do is the Google Play account, and of course I just recently changed my Gmail password and can't remember it. So now I'm off to Gmail here on the computer to see if I can remember it. You probably won't hear any more from me tonight. But the first one I have to do is the Google Play account, and of course I just recently changed my Gmail password and can't remember it. Well, that was easy after all. I had the password right, but the address wrong. Next I connected it to the watch, which insisted on giving itself a factory reset. Okay, fine. I tried to reinstall my nice simple clock face and can't find it. I selected another, but now the phone wants me to sign into my Samsung account. OY! More to remember.
