Chicken rescuer Frank Cantone is driving 600 miles this weekend to see if he can outfox Rudy, an outlaw rooster.

Rudy, who also goes by Wily, lives on the corner of Wylie Avenue and Robert Street in Pittsburgh, in violation of section 912.07 of the city’s code, which covers Urban Agriculture. Chicks, ducks, goats and honeybees are permitted, under certain conditions. Roosters, which are male chickens, are prohibited unconditionally, presumably because they make too much noise.

Rudy, in particular, is causing a flap in Pittsburgh, and so far no one has been able to catch him. The homeowner failed. A city inspector failed. Animal-control agents failed. An assistant city solicitor failed. Now, it’s up to Mr. Cantone of St. Louis, a school resource officer who apprehends chickens in his spare time.

He’s (Mr. Cantone) hatched a three-step plan for Rudy. First, food. He will scatter a special mix of chicken feed and sunflower seeds on the ground and have some in his gloved hand. Once Rudy eats from his hand, he will grab him with the other, which worked in two previous rooster captures.

If that fails, he will use his daughters. Rudy likes children, neighbors say. While his daughters distract him, Mr. Cantone will sneak up and grab the rooster.

If those two don’t work, he’ll wait for dark. Chickens are nearly blind at night, so they can’t see you coming, he says. Rudy sleeps in a tree to avoid predators, so Mr. Cantone is bringing a step ladder. If the ladder is too short, he will call the local fire department station, which offered to make its ladder available. “I’m not leaving town until I catch him,” he says.

I thought it was funny too, but at least one person needed it explained. Once the humor was put into words, I saw potential for a political dispute to erupt, so I attempted to nip it in the bud.

Recent First Ladies have taken on an "issue" to publicize. For example, Nancy Reagan encouraged young people to "just say no" to drugs. Laura Bush promoted xeriscaping. Michelle Obama promoted healthy eating and exercise in an attempt to stem rising rates of childhood obesity. Melania Trump is reported to be considering an anti-bullying campaign as her "issue".

Bill Maher had, I think, the best response to this. He said something to the effect of: You have to excuse Melania. She is from a country too small and poor to afford irony.

@ Zoom. To light those hard to get at pilot lights I tightly roll up a piece of newspaper to the thickness of a drinking straw and however long I need to reach the pilot light. put a bowl of water next to the appliance to put the usually smoldering match out so I dont set fire to the house.

Well, if the msg board here on main comes up with that "new" look after tomorrows outage, I think I will have to go into my bathroom and stick two fingers down my throat, and wiggle until I start gagging.

It isn't the look that bothers me. It is the loss of functionality that bothers. Little stuff like the list of page numbers being on top and bottom. Some sort oldest post first, others sort newest post first. Have the page numbers handy for both sort orders!

Web designers, big or small, need around 5 computers each running different O/S with 5 or so browsers each just to be sure that their changes don't break stuff. They also need about a dozen different phones to make sure the mobile version isn't broken.
