Oh boy.
Just popped up on my news feed
"Tsunami warning issued after magnitude-7.3 earthquake strikes off coast of Fukushima in Japan"

Hoping it's just a glitch with their database & not a new event.
EDIT- no such luck.

Good find Vic, it's also in Car and Motorcycle section on the Amazon UK site. But why is the Price: £51.89 + £3.99 UK delivery. Talk about a rip-off.

Camco 57533 Olympian GM12 RV Multi Sparker

When you can get this for Price: £3.25 & FREE UK delivery Refillable Long Reach Flexible Nose Clipper Lighter

edit] If you search for "Utility lighters" there are some cheaper ones

A piece of paper wont cost you anything Vic. Also flamees are better than sparks because you can heat up the plot sensor and then turn the main burner on. if that sensor isn't hot the gas to the burner wont go on.

I thought pilot sensors were something that came with auto ignition? Note My furnace does not have auto ignition, though there are parts for that, I don't know if they are compatible or not with My furnace. As to a piece of paper, might be cheaper, but paper can go anywhere once lit, and how do I hold it? With My hand? No one I've seen has done that, usually it's some sort of wire based tool that holds a piece of paper, but I could not find that, so I found what I found.

Tightly wound paper doesnt burn very quick and yuo make 20 inches long or more and hold on to the non burning end and hev atray of water underneath in case bits drop off. you could also use asmall piece of cotton wool dipped in lighter fluid on the end of a piece of wire. and yes all pilot lights have sensors, its a standard safety feature on gas appliances. And check that the rain hat on yuor flue pipe hasnt disapeared, backdraft down the flue pipe can blow out the pilot light the sensor then turns the main burner.off.

Got news that the outage was cancelled because the new format displayed only a 'project is down' notice and nothing more. No main page.......
So Eric cancelled the outage and I suspect will be having some words with Dr. Anderson.

It's time for... (holiday) Animal Stories!
Beaver walks into Maryland store, finds only artificial Christmas trees, and proceeds to trash it

In St. Mary’s County, Md., at least one badly behaved beaver is ready for holiday shopping.

The beaver was apprehended at a dollar store in Charlotte Hall, Md., the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement, apparently after browsing the selection of artificial Christmas trees and trashing the place.

Hungry python gorged itself on three deer

A 16-foot long Burmese python was found with the remains of three whole deer in its gut, researchers have revealed.

The snake was trapped and euthanised in the Florida Everglades in June 2013. Researchers who conducted a necropsy on the creature subsequently discovered its record-breaking deer consumption, details of which have now been published in the journal BioInvasions Records.

UC Berkeley researchers built a wall-jumping robot
The extra agility could one day prove useful in search and rescue operations.

Meet SALTO: a powerful new wall-jumping robot built by researchers at UC Berkeley. According to SALTO's makers, the diminutive, one-legged hopper not only has the "highest robotic vertical jumping agility ever recorded," but also the ability to link together multiple jumps in quick succession.

SALTO stands for saltatorial locomotion on terrain obstacles, and the motion of the mechanical jumping leg was modeled after galagos -- small jumping primates native to Africa that have stretchy tendons in their legs that allow them to store energy and jump with more force than if they only used their leg muscles alone. ...

If you’ve ever gotten the impression that most people aren’t as skilled with computers as you are, you finally have some data to back it up. The above chart shows the distribution of tech skills, and there’s a pretty narrow pool at the top almost everywhere.
