there are two passenger craft that during the summer give trips around the needles from Alum bay. Alum bay that's the place with natural multi coloured sand and you can see it in layers in the cliff can't you Bernie ? Sure it was there remember it from when i was a kid , heading down that way for my godparents 50th wedding Ani soon , will try to get the ferry over from Portsmoth Hbr . Life is what you make of it :-) When i'm good i'm very good , but when i'm bad i'm shi#eloads better ;-) In't I " buttercups " p.m.s.l at authoritie !!;-) |

Alum bay that's the place with natural multi coloured sand and you can see it in layers in the cliff can't you Bernie ? Indeed, and I did post a couple of pictures last year. Unfortunately erosion and tourists have started to take their toll, hence the tape in the second picture. Lots of tourists were digging out their own sand and causing problems. |

Reminds me of Rubjerg Knude lighthouse just off Lønstrup (Jutland, Denmark). There in the 1920s a grass planting was built to prevent sand drift. But instead the dune grew so much that the lighthouse no longer appeared from the sea. In 1968 it was taken out of use and today its completely buried in the sand dunes. |

Very nice pictures Bernie, always a pleasure to see them. I especially appreciate the Copyright symbol on some of the pics. Nice and clear where we all stand. I remember alum Bay sands as well from my early teens. All the souvenir shops sold what looked like chemi lab test tubes of the various layers of coloured sand. Shame to see it has been a bit vandalised :-(And what do you think all those test tubes full were? Vandalism? |

Unfortunately erosion and tourists have started to take their toll, hence the tape in the second picture. Sorry but the " Tourists " that dig their own are fu##nuts !! , to tight go go to the little shop and spend £ 5 for a couple packs of different coloured sand and a lighthouse to pour the sand in as a souveneir . I've still got mine and the glass lighthose / sand must be over 30+ years old now at the very least . Could have the cliffs fenced off now for H&S that bloke got killed near to where i live at Thorpeness when the cliff gave way and buried him when he was walking his dog ( even tho there WERE safty notices saying the cliff was unstable ) . Remember Alum bay well with the chairlift to take you from the top of the cliff down to the beach and Blackgang chine near as well , good memorys :-) Life is what you make of it :-) When i'm good i'm very good , but when i'm bad i'm shi#eloads better ;-) In't I " buttercups " p.m.s.l at authoritie !!;-) |

Why do so many British people move to Spain when they have Isle of Wight? |

It's a shame that a great thread is being ruined by bored keyboard warriors. |

I especially appreciate the Copyright symbol on some of the pics. Nice and clear where we all stand. Thanks for the laugh of the day. You are so uptight about me owing my own pictures. In this case these are pictures I uploaded previously to the Marine Traffic website to which I belong THEY put the copyright notice on every picture uploaded by members, nothing to do with me. As I said at the time it was quicker to link to them. If I get a chance later I will look for the originals and upload them instead. Don't want to upset anyone. PS OK I have replaced the apparently offensive (to some) pictures with my "originals" they are still copyright of course, they just don't go out of the way to state it. |

I think some people need to use a lot less starch in their laundry. |

I suggest Suzie, that you are making a 5 star performance out of a 2 star affair. Now please just settle down. If you aren't prepared to let this drop, then I might consider declining to post any more pictures here, and that would be a shame. Then go away! I don't need you telling me to "settle down." Someone had an issue and I addressed it. Frankly, you have offended me. Don't be patronizing. THIS is a five-star performance. ~Sue~ |

Why do so many British people move to Spain when they have Isle of Wight? Sunny and temp 18 C (64 F) today. And it's only springtime there. I wouldn't move for one minut. |

The Narrows crossing, Tacoma, WA 1999... 115KV, 335' tall, 720' above the water, spanning 1.3 miles with 1 1/4 inch plow steel cable. Conductor weather-proof sealing, and covering insulators for tower painting. Some of my favorite high steel photos from 1999. The Narrows Crossing, Tacoma, WA looking south to Tacoma Narrows Bridge. Chuck's first time on the bell cluster is obvious . Every ten years we wrap the insulators for painting and tar the wire. I took the photos. ... |

That first photo. There is no way I could do that. And if I ever did get my stared butt out there. I would be leaving brown footprints. More power to whoever can do that kind of work. |
