I suggest Suzie, that you are making a 5 star performance out of a 2 star affair. Now please just settle down. If you aren't prepared to let this drop, then I might consider declining to post any more pictures here, and that would be a shame.

Then go away! I don't need you telling me to "settle down." Someone had an issue and I addressed it. Frankly, you have
offended me. Don't be patronizing.

THIS is a five-star performance.

Why do so many British people move to Spain when they have Isle of Wight?

Um, weather? ;-)

Sunny and temp 18 C (64 F) today.
And it's only springtime there.
I wouldn't move for one minut.

The Narrows crossing, Tacoma, WA 1999...
115KV, 335' tall, 720' above the water, spanning 1.3 miles with 1 1/4 inch plow steel cable. Conductor weather-proof sealing, and covering insulators for tower painting.

Some of my favorite high steel photos from 1999. The Narrows Crossing, Tacoma, WA looking south to Tacoma Narrows Bridge. Chuck's first time on the bell cluster is obvious . Every ten years we wrap the insulators for painting and tar the wire. I took the photos.

That first photo. There is no way I could do that. And if I ever did get my stared butt out there. I would be leaving brown footprints. More power to whoever can do that kind of work.

I did tower work for years but today I wouldn't set foot on one. I lost all my nerve.

Highest one was 1,085 feet pbs TV tower in New Mexico..

I was stationed at a site in Germany that had a Torii tower. A lot of the soldiers wanted to
climb it. Many of them did. I never did. Not that I was afraid to. At that age (20) I was fearless.
Here's some info: https://www.emporis.com/buildings/1222462/torii-tower-gusborn-germany
And here's a photo (that I didn't take): http://static.panoramio.com/photos/large/14282411.jpg
(which is why I posted a URL rather than a photo).
FYI: It was an intelligence-gathering site right on the border of East/West Germany.

Iirc, there were three border sites with those towers.

The views from work were what made it for me, I loved it.

Blair Waterway crossing, East 11th St., Tide Flats, Tacoma, WA 1994
115KV & 13.8KV, 225' tall, 1800' span restringing wire, 336MMC to 1272MMC AAC.

This was the first year my company went all PSE (personal safety equipment) on us. The year before we free climbed without the 15lbs of PSE.

Blair Waterway & East 11th Street

East 11th Street & Hylebos Waterway in the distant and the next job.

I'm on the left side with Commencement Bay in the back ground.

I'm on the left side and a better view of the PSE we all hated with a passion. Felt like being a fish-on hooked three ways by three different fisherman. Queue laughing sounds. wink wink!

Amazing pictures from j mercer. I think all of us get a little more squeamish about heights with age for some reason. About twenty years ago, I had just been to an Allman Brothers concert in downtown Louisville, and somehow got into an after-party at a 29 story apartment building, a couple blocks from the venue. Several of us ended up walking around on the roof of the building, and I remember very well there was no railing. You could walk right up to the edge and look down, which I did, and it didn't phase me. Today, I don't even like getting on the ladder to clean my gutters out!

And it's a good excuse. With age comes wisdom.

No aerial hero stuff any more. I do still clean my gutters and trim my trees & hedge off a ladder at 70. I do it for the exercise. Only for a few minutes at a time now, not for hours or all day long anymore. I can't do that kind of work anymore, that's for sure. Har!

I'll dig out some more photos.

Thank you for your comments. ;^)

Great photographs! An office with an unparalleled view!

As a youngster, I had an almost pathological fear of heights. I believe in confronting one's fears, and I was able to completely and permanently overcome my fear of heights, simply by jumping out of an aeroplane. Yeah, okay, with a parachute. ;)
