Is that significant?

It is a newer instruction set that came after SSE4.2. I don't think any Atom systems have AVX. So it may not matter for you.

Something you way want to look into is BartPE. Which takes Windows PE, which is a stripped down version of windows for OS install purposes, and turns it into a usable OS.

Ok, thanks. The board that I will be running the vast majority of these systems on is an Intel DG33FB, 4 gigs of RAM, often with a X3360, 70 or 80 processor, (4 real cores) so I can dedicate 1-2 cores towards the GPU, and crunch on the other 2. My guess is that these boards wouldn't support it either, they are the G33 chipset, which came out in 2009 I think.

It sounds like I may have wasted my money on these copies of Vista, eh? Not worth running them outside of systems on the 'ol farm? They will be similiarly configured.

The first CPUs that supported AVX were based on Sandy Bridge, Core i5/7-2000 series, in 2011.

As far as Vista... I mean there are some people that like it.. My personal preference is to scowl away from any machine I see it on like a vampire in sunlight, but that's just me. It's an OS & if it doesn't make you want to smash your computer when using it then it's fine for you.

Well, I actually won't be looking at it very often, hopefully only a couple times a year till MS finally kills any more support for it, and I believe that's just around the corner? The biggest thing is if I can make it perform well by using that software to remove the bloat and trim it back to just what is necessary to run SETI. Oh, and I do everything I can to turn it back to Windows Classic look, it gets fairly close if you dig into it enough. I despise that Fisher Price interface as well. Stick a stake in it!

I'll make a master that is fully service packed and then trim it down, but not put in any product keys, and image it, then finally ghost it back to new HD's and enter the unique keys for each system upon boot up. At least that's the plan now, we'll see how it goes...

You may also want to give their newest version of the software a try. http://www.nliteos.com/ I toyed around with it a few years ago, but haven't done much with it recently.

Checked it out, it appears that they actively list all OS'es but Vista as being supported. Oh the joys of being the ugly red headed stepchild... lol
