Thanks for the update. I had noticed my RAC had dropped off, more due to networking issues than anything else. I see that I'm running a combination of SETI@home v7 and SETI@home v8. Do I need to do anything to the BOINC software at this point? Computing for science on Unix, |

He attacked me as application developer. Now I wash my hands of the entire project forever. Thankyou to those that supported my work over the years. These jerks made me realise I don;t want to help these people at all. I'm sorry to hear that. Like me, the vast majority appreciate the work you've done over the years (even if many of them aren't even aware of it). It's just a shame that the whinging whining "it doesn't matter what you do it will still be wrong" group make the loudest noise. Like most empty vessels. Grant Darwin NT |

Just a suggestion: before you release a Version, which is only for CPU, so just wait a bit, until you can support the other computing components out there. Jason doesn't release versions. Eric releases versions. You can tell this because Eric has "Project Scientist" as a title line under his name. Jason just has "Volunteer Developer" and "Volunteer Tester" under his. So to get this through your skull, until Eric finishes the stock applications for GPU over on the Beta project the volunteers like Jason can't take them and optimize them. Hey, I know, why don't you get the tarballs from Beta for the buggy GPU apps and compile and test them yourself! It is an open source project! You want, you do work! No one else will, especially when people bitch that it isn't being done "their way." Finally if you had bothered to look over on the Beta site you would have seen where Jason took his off time from work over the holidays and spent countless hours working on the V8 apps so they will work on dozens of hardware and software combinations. Sick and tired of RAC hogs who only care how big a number they can have by their name on some web site and don't care one whit about the science! |

Well said Gary. Jason has worked his socks off in the last couple of weeks, and is feeling "somewhat frazzled", and all some folks can do is whine that their precious RAC is falling. If you want a mega RAC hop over to one of the other "better paying" projects and your RAC will multiply overnight. Or if you want to help the science here at SETI@Home do as Gary says, get the nightly tarballs, learn to compile them, submit the result for assessment in Beta. But which ever path you choose quit whining about your pet application not being ready at the same time as the CPU v8 was released you are really upsetting a few folks. Work never gets lost. Only delayed. Everyone who uses the stock apps will continue to get v7 work until we are entirely finished. got no new nVidia tasks...maybe you should consider using v7-GPU versions until you make a v8-GPU version available?! ;) non-profit org. You say SETI@home version 8 has been released. So where is it??????? Version 8 is nowhere to be found, so I will call this vaporware. |

The WINDOWS and LINUX cpu versions have been released, and if you are running "stock" applications the files will be automatically downloaded when required. As I type there is no official v8 application for Mac - but there are various test versions floating around. If you want to "force" the download of the v8 application onto your Windows PC have a look at this thread http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=78716 - near the end are links to the various files needed. The definitive information on what applications are available is listed on the Applications page - in the v8 section at the bottom. And yes, Mac OS X is listed there. Snags are still being ironed out - the PPC version was having problems yesterday, and there are suggestions that the Intel versions were having problems on Mavericks and earlier. For those already using optimised applications under Anonymous Platform - you won't get the new apps automatically. I've been given the information necessary to create an app_info.xml file for the Mac, but I don't have a Mac myself. I'm aiming to post a file in the sticky thread in Number Crunching later today, but that depends on the availability of suitably-equipped testers. |

I still don't see it. Currently running the latest Mac OS X . Make sure you actually have Setiathome v8 selected in your SETI@home preferences. You say SETI@home version 8 has been released. So where is it??????? Version 8 is nowhere to be found, so I will call this vaporware. No good looking in computing preferences as those are Global preferences, and not preferences relating to THIS project. Claggy |

Will that mean that Astropulse will also get ugraded to v8? |

Will that mean that Astropulse will also get ugraded to v8? No. Obviously at some point it will get upgraded to v8, and v9 after that etc. Claggy |

OK, what is this all about? I am using BOINC version 7 something. Is shows I am working on a SETI V8 set of data right now. Did I need to update something? Does not seem that way. Be Clear about this, please! |

On the eve of January 4, after sitting idle for a bit, it went to screen saver. The show graphics was back in action. Ok, so it slows things a bit, but the "eye candy" is what brought me into all this initially. Guess I am the only one who likes it now, seeing the comments. Anyway, was glad it was a choice again, and not an accident. I like the project, but, sorry, I like the show graphics as well. :( |

Thanks for the reply. But I do like the graphics if you want to see them. Will run without choosing as well. They are neat to watch and just like having the choice. Thanks for the response(s) all. |

Thanks for the reply. Appreciate the feedback. I do like the screen saver graphics even if it slows things a bit. At least the choice is there. Thanks for the info. |

For those of us using "optimized" versions aka lunatics, Big PIA! We need to make a stop at every PC and make a change... |
