That section of the A47 has always been a bit contentious. Up to Ring End, it's dual carriageway but from there its single with the A141 to March on the right, A47 on the left to Wisbech. On the last update I posted, the police got it wrong. The bus driver & 1 passenger was killed. As for the truck tacho, there is also the bus tacho & telematics. if any.

Which side of Guyhirn village are we talking? If it's on the approach from the west, the bus would be heading directly into the morning sun. It should be high enough in the sky not to matter, but that sort of thing doesn't show up on tachographs.

Multi-vehicle crash shuts Kwinana Freeway as motorist trapped under truck.
Motorists are being warned of severe delays on the Kwinana Freeway in both directions after a car was crushed by a truck in a crash that left at least one motorist trapped.
Emergency services are at the scene of the crash in Success, which involved three cars and a truck.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) said one person had been trapped in a car under the truck, but had since been freed.

Good question Richard. It made me think & go back & check. It's not actually Guyhirne, the accident happened on "my side" of the A47. I completely forgot that the A47 dual carriageway ends just before Thorney Toll & Bretts is not far from there, and the address where the accident occurred is: Thorney Rd, Guyhirne, Wisbech St Mary, Wisbech PE13 so not near the village itself.

Depending on traffic Guyhirne itself is approx. 5 minutes or so from Bretts & is on the left after turning left at Ring's End.

Maybe a picture helps?

Crash happened at the PE13 marker, bus was travelling east-south-east.

Wasn't a bad guesstimate :-) It was the report stating Guyhirn that put me off as I thought that Bretts was on the same stretch of road as Ken Thomas transport.

Why do I get the feeling a personal electronic device was involved?

All sorts of possible contributing factors - the last few days the sun has been at a very awkward angle for higher vehicles, the truck may have stalled, one of the drivers distracted by something else on the road. And so the list goes on. Sadly bus vs. truck tends to be a very one sided debate for all concerned :-(

Especially in a T-bone incident like that. Watch out for the side-view video of the bus being removed from the scene: the rigid flat-bed of the truck has gouged a huge void into the front of the bus - right through the driver's seating position.

Either the truck pulled out without the driver looking both ways, or the bus driver - whether through distraction, weather, or illness - didn't react to the obstruction.

That's what I thought. I've delivered to both Bretts & Ken Thomas. Leaving their yard can be awkward as that is a busy stretch of road.

Looks like there is good visibility. Only frustration in not having a big enough break in traffic and simply pulling out or a bus driver who didn't have eyeballs down the road. And as how far the rig got out of the yard before the hit, I'm thinking it might be the latter. That and I can't see skid marks on the road from the news photos although they aren't closeups.

If the truck had come to a complete stop before leaving the yard and depending on the weight of his load, it would have taken him a good few seconds to get to the point where he was hit, no arrests so far and tacho and telematics data would have been processed almost immediately after the accident, probably before the vehicles were moved, it does look like the bus driver did not have his attention fully on the road.

Knowing how busy the roads are in most Chinese cities I am absolute amazed at the lack of traffic on either level of that road. Also there appears to be some fabric blowing around - was this actually an intentional act that went slightly wrong?

Looks more like tarps and it seems to be rain soaked wet.

Up to 50 people could be entitled to compensation after bitumen on a recently resurfaced road in far north Queensland melted around car tyres, causing traffic chaos and damage to vehicles.
