Airport management said that smoke was spotted coming out from the right-side engine of a twin-jet Boeing 767-300E. A FedEx cargo plane coming in to land at a Texas airport came within metres of colliding with a passenger jet taking off from the same runway on Saturday. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said it was “investigating a surface event at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport Saturday, a possible runway incursion and overflight involving airplanes from Southwest Airlines and FedEx”. The terrifying near miss, which was captured on flight trackers and air traffic control audio recordings, occurred in poor visibility conditions at around 6.30am on Saturday.... She lost control of the truck and it rolled downhill into the water. The driver had to bust through the sunroof to get out of the submerged vehicle. First arriving deputies utilized a homeowner’s boat to rescue the driver. Fort Worth FD’s Dive Team assisted in recovering the vehicle from the water. The driver was not injured. FAA investigates after two planes nearly collide on JFK runway The close call happened on Friday at John F Kennedy International Airport, between a Boeing 777 headed to the UK and a Boeing 737 headed to the Dominican Republic. One plane was about to take off while the other was crossing the same runway. The collision was averted when an air controller noticed the two. Using an expletive, the air traffic controller attempted to stop the Delta aeroplane as it was preparing to take wing. ... The FAA said the planes were around 1,000ft (300m) away from each other when the Delta aircraft stopped. It has since launched an investigation into the near collision.
