The BBC report on that accident says there was a second one hours later that also killed 16 people. The second one was the one that i posted- the bus killing the emergency workers & media working on the first accident. Grant Darwin NT |

There were four accidents in total: two original shunts, and two follow-up buses crashing into the two different clear-up teams. The BBC report on that accident says there was a second one hours later that also killed 16 people. The second one was the one that i posted- the bus killing the emergency workers & media working on the first accident. I spent a month in 1972 driving round Turkey in a student group. We went diagonally from Istanbul to Antioch (practically on the Syrian border), and then back along the entire length of the Mediterranean and Aegean coasts. I remember that we had been advised to make that circuit clockwise: if you were forced off the road by a truck coming the other way, you stood a better chance of ending up in a field and surviving. The other way, you'd fall into the sea. |

A half million dollar ouch. A man in pyjamas has rescued two people from a burning car. Maybe he should stick to racing on race tracks. Cheers. |

2 old timers get together. Vintage aircraft collide in Virginia. Thankfully no one was seriously injured. Cheers. |

Puzzling No problem with the report but find the 1st 2 photos puzzling. Been viewing them for about 10 minutes, can't see how i t is possible. Photo 1 shows the damaged barrier but also a damaged lamp post, so was that the angle from where it started? Photo 2 shows damage to the high tension cables & some debris on the station building, but no damage to the wall behind the cables. |

...but no damage to the wall behind the cables.I think that you'll find that the "wall" that you're looking at is actually a raised ramp that the Range Rover went under before launching itself onto the rails. ;-) Cheers. |

One thing - that Range Rover was not travelling slowly, but well over the 40mph speed limit. It would be interesting to see the data from its transmission & engine logs to see what it was doing in the last few seconds before it started to fly into things. And on that section of the A40, I'd expect a lot of CCTV and traffic cameras. The driver - if he survives - is going to have a lot of awkward questions to answer. |

Yes, lots of CCTV and ANPR, can't remember where the scameras are, but there are/were traffic light cameras a couple of miles to the east at Gipsy Corner. Side story. A good few years ago my brother managed to spin a 40 foot trailer on the Gyratory System when he found the contents of a truck fuel tank on the very wet road. He ended up touching, but not damaging the side of a Police car that had also spun. Only casualty apart from the the Police officers' underwear was one of the police who got out of their car and promptly lost his footing and broke an ankle as he slide under the car. My brother used the truck as bridge to get to non-slippy ground. Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

Misapplied cruise control? Most certainly - too much lead in the boot plus too little brain in the head. Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

We're both wrong, it's actually a concrete barrier. It used to be railings all the way that got replaced by a wall over 40 years ago (Know the A40 very well, also Park Royal station, as most of that area is an industrial one & used to work there). The only reason I found the photos puzzling was the distance between the crash barrier & the high tension cables is some distance. This photo explains that. Reporters - Sheesh. Airborne. Have to agree with Rob, definitely doing too high a speed. That time of the morning, gives many reign to act out their F1 fantasies especially on roads like the A40. |

Did someone forget to put the bungs in? Dramatic video captures the moment a massive 40-meter superyacht sank off the coast of Italy. I bet that the captain and owner both felt that sinking feeling. Cheers. |

Misapplied cruise control?Nope. Just a brain dead moron demonstrating their abilities. She said: "About 2am I was woken up by the noise of cars going on for about an hour and a half. Grant Darwin NT |

I think the word "abilities" is a bit optimistic there. Looks like he had just one ability - to make an utter fool of himself. |
