Driver’s skeleton passenger gets him a ticket on the ‘Bony Express,’ Texas cops say Those carpool lanes are meant for vehicles with two or more people, according to the Texas Department of Transportation. And as this driver learned, skeletons don’t count as a person. |

... Seeing how it is Texas. If she is carrying TWINS it would count as three??? :- ... most native born Texas woman drivers are generally smarter than the men and would not try to press their luck with such gimmicks. |

Wrong type of leaves on track could be a thing of the past. Thanks to a technique which uses dry ice which freezes the leaves, making them brittle, developed by University of Sheffield engineers. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-58783589 |

I hope they source their CO2 responsibly, and don't let it leak into the atmosphere - otherwise, they'll need even more cooling power to freeze the leaves next year. |

Presumably nuclear submarines normally run without sonar operating - i.e., blind. How up to date are their underwater maps? What happened to Rule No 5? Look-out. Every vessel shall at all times maintain a proper look-out by sight and hearing as well as by all available means appropriate in the prevailing circumstances and conditions so as to make a full appraisal of the situation and of the risk of collision. |

They normally run with huge arrays of hydrophones, including towed arrays, connected to massive amounts of processing power to calculate the direction and distance of any object that makes a sound, by analysing the difference in time that the sounds reach each individual hydrophone. So must assume the object that the submarine collided with wasn't moving. So maybe their underwater maps are not up to date or precise enough. |

And whatever they hit didn't make an echo. |

And whatever they hit didn't make an echo.No active sonar, no echo. The major drawback with passive detection- if the object hasn't been mapped previously & isn't making any noise (or other objects in the area aren't making enough noise to reflect from that object), then you don't know it's there (unless it runs in to you, or you in to it).
