Idiots and motor vehicles.
Adelaide drink driver wedged on traffic island was almost seven times legal limit
And the second motorist, they would be from a remote community. Cars like that are the norm there.

Australian derailment

Latest says that train was diverted on to a speed restricted loop that the crew knew nothing about. And therefore drove at the normal 100 kph onto a 15 kph section.
Unfortunately the crew died.

Charter bus rollover kills 3, injures 18 outside San Diego

PALA MESA, Calif. (AP) — A charter bus swerved on a rain-slicked Southern California highway and rolled down an embankment Saturday, killing three people and injuring 18 others, authorities said.

Several passengers were thrown from the bus, and one of the dead was trapped under the vehicle after it landed on its roof shortly after 10 a.m. off Interstate 15 in Pala Mesa, an unincorporated community about 45 miles (72 kilometers) north of San Diego, North County Fire Protection District spokesman John Choi said.

“There were no seat belts on this bus,” Choi said. Another person who died was trapped inside the bus, he added.

A man in a truck was responsible for a dangerous U-turn on the M6 motorway in Staffordshire, England.
It was January 21 that the man drove off the highway, then he regretted and tried to drive back - in the opposite direction. Although surprised motorists tried to signal him, he continued on the highway.
The entire course of events was captured on camera, and the man has now been sentenced to six months imprisonment and the driver's license is suspended for 15 months.

Took long enough. Knew this would be on the cards (discussed on these threads some time ago). That's delivery deadlines up the creek & more money for the speed camera merchants. Do deliveries from 22:00-06:00 on emptier roads travel at 20mph?
Thank god I no longer do 35 drops a day in London!

And thank goodness I no longer have to drive in London. I let someone else do it for me, in order of preference train>bus>taxi (not sure where I put the water buses on the sequence). But then these days I tend to arrange things so I can walk from station to location, very often beating bus/taxi in the process :-)

I do one delivery in the Docklands area, 20 or more pallets or cages of parcels in the very early hours (1 -3 AM) just to give those local delivery drivers something to do:-)

Its surprising just how much traffic there is around at that time.

Man Drives Car Off a Bridge Just 10 Minutes After Being Issued His Drivers License

Maybe this guy shouldn’t have been issued a driver’s license after all?
...
The incident happened in China when a man was texting friends to tell them he just got his license when he went flying off a bridge into the water.

Worrisome!
Meanwhile, lorry drivers transporting essential goods to supermarkets will be allowed to stay on the road longer without a break after Transport Secretary Grant Shapps temporarily relaxed the rules.
Lets hope none fall asleep at the wheel.

ATM does not apply to me but If/When it does or even if they think that they can get more driving out of me they will be told otherwise, plenty of other work out there.

Not convinced that is the correct action. It might have been better, if extra mileage is required,
A. - All those with current HGV and not working in the trade at this time to fill in where required.
B. - to ask those who's HGV license has lapsed in the last few years and out of work due to the virus, to apply for emergency period license

https://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2020/03/21/6-killed-after-Indiana-bridge-collapses/3011584837609/
March 21 (UPI) -- Six people died Friday after a bridge collapsed in southern Indiana due to flash flooding, sweeping a truck and a van off the road.

CBS Chicago reports that a witness called 911 early Friday morning after hearing cries of help near the bridge, which was situated in the southern part of the state.

A family of four had been driving in a sedan when the bridge collapsed, and two adults were riding together in another vehicle.

After first responders arrived at the scene they found five bodies. A sixth person remained missing until Saturday, when first responders resumed their search and found an additional body.

Anyone out and about esp late at night be careful out there.

It seems that some of the boy-racers are using the deserted roads late at night and some of them are not as good as they think they are.

Passed the remains of 3 cars *parked* in unusual positions awaiting recovery last night.

One of them the police were still looking for the driver, Dog van had back door and cage still open:-)

Unfortunately some of these may end up occupying NHS beds that are badly needed.

https://abc7.com/officials-engineer-tried-to-run-train-into-usns-mercy/6069395/
SAN PEDRO, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- An engineer deliberately ran a train off the tracks at high speed near the Port of Los Angeles in an attempt to crash into the USNS Mercy hospital ship, prosecutors say.

The Pacific Harbor Line train derailed Tuesday, running through the end of the track and crashing through barriers, finally coming to rest about 250 yards from the docked naval ship.

Federal prosecutors allege train engineer Eduardo Moreno, 44, of San Pedro intended to hit the ship, saying he thought it was "suspicious" and did not believe "the ship is what they say it's for.'"

The train crashed into a concrete barrier at the end of the track, smashed through a steel barrier and a chain-link fence, slid through one parking lot and then a second lot filled with gravel and hit a second chain-link fence. It came to rest after passing under a ramp leading to the Vincent Thomas Bridge. The train remained in that position Wednesday.

No one was injured in the derailment, but the train leaked fuel that required a hazmat response.

Authorities say Moreno admitted to crashing the train intentionally, but said he did not plan it out in advance. It is believed that he acted alone.

He allegedly made statements to a CHP officer that included "You only get this chance once. The whole world is watching. I had to. People don't know what's going on here. Now they will."

Officials say video from inside the train's cab shows Moreno holding a lighted flare during the incident.

Moreno has been charged with one count of train wrecking, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison.

The Mercy arrived at the Port of Los Angeles this weekend.

The Navy hospital ship was brought in to handle non-coronavirus patients, to help ease the burden of local hospitals that are surging with COVID-19 cases.

The ship has about 1,000 hospital beds, with some 800 active-duty doctors, nurses and medical staff on board. It is expected to stay in Los Angeles at least until September or until it is no longer needed.
