The weather was perfect. Time was about 16 PM. It was certainly a pilot error, done by a student. The teacher was in a back seat.

I suspect that it will come out that while it was instruction, the "students" in the front seats are fully licensed and the training was limited to operating on skis rather than wheels.

There is a lot of that kind of training, such as night landings, float landings, ski landings, practice instrument conditions that fully licensed pilots get. I seriously doubt these "students" were learning how to fly.

So at this point we have four sets of pilot eyeballs and four sets of pilot ears, four pilot mouths and they all failed to talk, hear, see and avoid.

One thing that hasn't been said is what color was the helicopter painted? Snow white? That could go a very long way to an explanation. Look up whiteout.

Maybe there was the Sun in the pilots' eyes. At high altitudes it can be blinding.

Like they think, just putting out a police warning is going to stop people slowing down when they see this as they are driving past.

The twin-engine plane came apart and caught fire mid-flight, witnesses told local media, before crashing in Yorba Linda, a suburb of Los Angeles.

Three crew die in Canadian Pacific derailment

CBC News · Posted: Feb 04, 2019

"Victims ID'd after train plunged 60 metres off bridge near B.C.-Alberta border

Three Canadian Pacific Railway crew members who were killed early Monday in a train derailment east of Field, B.C., have been identified. Conductor Dylan Paradis, engineer Andrew Dockrell and trainee Daniel Waldenberger-Bulmer were killed, according to CP, when the westbound freight train went off the tracks at about 1 a.m. MT. All three were on board the train at the time.

A union representative said earlier the train fell more than 60 metres from a bridge near the Alberta-British Columbia boundary. Greg Edwards with the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) said the workers had just taken over the train when it happened. "

I'm putting myself to the fullest possible use, which is all, I think, that any conscious entity can ever hope to do.

(oops - this isn't the captions thread)
glad nobody has been hurt, although the driver must need a new set of underwear

:-)

On a more serious note, I watched Ep 12 of A1 Britain's Longest Road last night & was glad I did so. (How I missed this series on TV, I don't know.) I e-mailed my old transport manager, telling him to watch it & provided the link.

Received an answer this afternoon, apologising for the grief he gave me over it.

In Episode 12, a police traffic officer stated what I have known for many a year.
The national speed limit on Britain's roads (including Dual Carriageways) is 70mph unless otherwise stated. However as far as LGV's (that includes "White Van Man") & HGV's are concerned it is 60mph unless on motorways.

My old TM kept pulling me up on this point as many of my crewmates often complained that I was too slow on A & B roads.

Dashcam footage shows a lorry narrowly miss a 14-year-old boy

More of a pirate pickup truck than a professional HGV, but at least the boy was safe, and the driver was prosecuted and convicted.

Was going to post that but the "sudden" outage got in the way. Would've labelled the link: The Bad to go with this:

The Good

As for the Ugly, most drivers are aware of that. :-(

Good to see they followed procedure and went around.
The number of overruns that have occurred when pilots have tried to continue to land after an initial big bounce are way too many.

Prince Philip, 97, gives up driver's licence after crash.

I'm sure that some will feel safer on the roads now, though charges over that accident are still possible for the Prince.

Cheers.

I have travelled once in a jet stream.
A bumpy trip from London to Stockholm and we gained about one half hour:)
Not as fast as 800 mph groundspeed though...
