Was checking NASA's website for a good picture of the fires in the Western US. I could not find 1 good one that showed it all. But here is a mind blowing number. According to NASA over 7 million acres have burned as of 8/17. That 10 time the annual average. I wonder how much carbon that has released?

Doesn't matter. It isn't human activity carbon like from an electric plant, which is the only kind that warms and acidifies. ;)

Mister Charpentier, are you trolling???!!!

Why perish the thought my dear lady. Just restating the scientific fact, as interpreted by politicians, that only human caused carbon counts, natural carbon is exempt because it can't be regulated. ;)

They are trying to regulate emissions from dairy and beef cattle by limiting the number of cattle on a given farm or feed lot. Getting a lot of resistance on that. Also trying to promote the use of methane digesters on dairies - collect and use the gas to run generators, reduce the electric bill.

One dairy along SR-198 that I pass regularly has installed solar panels, on the ground and on the barn roofs.

Nah, for that we need to wait for ML1 to post something irrelevant in a couple of days, before waiting another day for him to reply to Garys post.

Politics: Just looked at the forum topics page. Very nice collection of green stars, gold, silver and bronze badges under the OP column. Perhaps that answers the question of need, when it is considered from the project's POV.

Well, perhaps your car. Mine does require an operational battery in the fob to start the car.

Mine is an old 2007 runabout, they weren't too clever in those days :-)

You can lock keypads on mobile phones to ward against that, you can't do so for car key fobs. If that is a problem to the newer car owner, should they be driving in the first place?

2007 eh? Mines worse, it's a 1999, the fob unlocks doors, opens the trunk and deals with the built in alarm, but that's it.. The computer just manages the motor, heck I have hand cranked windows on the 2 car doors, but then I have a coupe, a 2yr model.

I know this is old business, but I just read the whole thread.

My car fob opens the driver's door with one press and all of them with two. It locks all the doors with one press of the other button and honks the horn as confirmation with each subsequent press. Recently, I managed to run the battery completely down (the car, not the fob). I let myself in with the key but could not open any other doors; only the driver's door has a keyhole. Then, silly me, I put the key in the ignition and turned it. Nothing happened, which was not a surprise. What was a surprise was that it would not come out again. Something in the ignition lock holds the key in if there's no power.

I got out my battery charger and hooked it up, pleased that it still worked. A few seconds later, the car came to life... mainly in the form of its alarm honking the horn repeatedly. I guess the last it knew the alarm was set and now it found the door open, so it went off. Remember that the key was stuck in the ignition, not in my pocket where I could easily pull it out and hit buttons until the alarm stopped. Fortunately, the door was still open, so I was able to reach in and press buttons on the fob until the alarm stopped. Then I found that with power, the ignition lock had released the key. Yay.

The fob for my house alarm is not working. I don't know if it's the battery or the buttons going bad. I had thought plugging it into the computer would charge its battery, but it didn't help. I'll spare you the details of the fiasco that caused.

At this point, I am completely changing topics. Normally, I would start a new post for that, but double posting is verboten in this thread. So be it.

Nearly 10 months ago, Chris started a thread called "The Berks R Us report." I assumed from context what "berk" seemed to mean. I have just become better educated.

[Background: the previous two days' strips taught us what "trump" and "trumper" mean in British slang.]

Hummm, the berk monologues? Somehow it could fit given that thread.

FAA Releases Pilot UAS Reports
August 21- The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) released a new list of pilot, air traffic and citizen reports of possible encounters with unmanned aircraft (UAS). The reports cover November 13, 2014 through August 20, 2015.

Because pilot reports of unmanned aircraft have increased dramatically over the past year, the FAA wants to send a clear message that operating drones around airplanes and helicopters is dangerous and illegal. Unauthorized operators may be subject to stiff fines and criminal charges, including possible jail time.

If you fly a drone stay away from airports or fires.

Terrible crash in an airshow in England.
https://youtu.be/pvHplYmh2f8
Reminds me of this in Stocholm in front of 500,000 spectators.

In that case no one was hurt...
Not far away from the church I was baptised in.
I wasn't there but I heard the crash.
The plane crashed in the only place with no people!

The world's 400 richest people lost on Monday about one trillion crowns. It's almost as much as the global official development assistance.

The world's 400 richest people had already last week lost around 182 billion dollars when under the black Monday, August 24 lost a further 124 billion dollars, writes Bloomberg.
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-08-24/the-world-s-richest-people-lost-another-124-billion-on-monday

And who forecasted this?
Yes. Martin Armstrong...

The Forecaster Trailer. I saw the whole documentary only last week.
