Hi all,
I am currently processing work packages from Seti@home. I have enabled the screensaver under the control panel.

My current screensaver settings are:

Blank screensaver after: Never
Run BOINC screensaver for: 1hr
Run project screensavers for: 1hr
Switch between project screensavers every: Never

When I run the screen saver I get the "No running tasks". I figured out that I had to go to the Boinc Manager and click "resume" to continue processing so that the screen saver would display the graphics of the current task.

My question: How do I make it so that computing is "resumed" when the screen saver is activated, and "suspended" when the screensaver is disabled (when computer is in use)?

Thanks for any help. I really would like to help compute for seti@home, but only would like it to run when I am not using the computer.

Thanks.

Is there any reason why you only want to process while you're not using the computer? Every modern operating system can run programs at different priority levels. BOINC is designed to always launch the science application at the lowest priority level supported by the OS. All user applications run at a higher priority level so that they always take precedence over the science applications.

But if you still want to limit BOINC to only running when you're not using your computer, there's a Preference setting that reads "Suspend when the computer is in use", then follow up with the option below it "'In use' means mouse/keyboard input in last" and set it to 58 minutes (so that the science application can kick in before the screen saver is set to go off).

And that will do it.
