I'll crunch Beta 100% in the hope of making some difference there instead, if and when there is something new to test. Credit chasers obviously aren't intetested in Beta...... Or in Main. They all go to Collatz instead. Grant Darwin NT |

Tut, some people go out and drink, or go out to eat, go on vacations, go to Vegas, or find other ways to spend their hard earned money. Others have habits like motorcycles, boats, or cars. Still others are into less... legal... vices. Myself, I don't do nearly as much of those things (especially the ~legal ones) as I had done years ago, so choose instead to spend my $ on having fun with SETI. Does this mean that because I have a number of decent crunchers, that I am over-computered, does it mean that your contributions count for any less than mine? I don't believe so, _everyone's_ contribution here is appreciated. I believe that finally finding ET is nothing more than a numbers game, and the more numbers we can process, the better a chance we have of finding them. And you have just as good a chance at finding the WOW signal as I or any other person here, regardless of computing capacity. I hope that because some of us have gone a little above and beyond the average person crunching here at SETI historically has, it doesn't discourage you, because when you honestly get right down to it, nothing has really changed here since the good ol' days, we are getting signals, and processing them. Much faster, and hopefully with higher resolution, but still just lookin' for ET. |

Tut, some people go out and drink, or go out to eat, go on vacations, go to Vegas, or find other ways to spend their hard earned money ... +1 I would also add that I look at BOINC as a learning opportunity as regards computer hardware and software, a good way to meet interesting people, a way to keep my mind sharp, and a generally enjoyable, if expensive, hobby. Beats the hell out of sitting around waiting to give the $$ to the grandkids :) Can't see where any of that's bad ... |

Besides, the gods of irony have decreed that SETI's Golden needle will be found by someone running Windows 95 on a Pentium II.... |

That happened with Prime95. A computer is the basement of a church in Memphis, Tenn. found the largest prime number to date. 23 million digits. |

Well, I have to admit that when it's all said and done, it happening that way really wouldn't surprise me in the least! |
