Gary, how did you dig that up? It hasn't even made Rachel yet.
Reading some hard news and that was one of the click bait links.

open source = open malware
http://www.zdnet.com/article/can-google-win-its-battle-with-android-malware/
Both iOS and Android devices are targeted by hackers, but data suggests there is more Android malware in circulation than for iOS; a recent report by F-Secure goes so far as to say 99 percent of all malware that targets mobile devices is designed for Android.

Android is attractive because it holds a larger share of the mobile market than iOS does, while the walled garden of iOS is more difficult to compromise than the famously open source Android platform.

Where are all those eyeballs ML? I know. They are the eyeballs writing the malware!

Good trolling there but wrong response.

Linux provides the infrastructure.

Marketing 'requirements' can abuse anything provided...

The Linux kernel may be secure by design but is open to abuse when controlled by any rouge master... As is scarily sold now by various corporates for short term profit...

Hopefully there will be enough strength of a backlash from Linux users to avoid Linux becoming poisoned in the ways that certain other OSes have so badly lowered users' hopes and expectations.

Do we have a new age of slavery? This time to intrusive intrusion of online-privacy and Marketing driven victimization?...

IT is what we allow it to be...

The Linux kernel is not secure by design.
Hence the name Open Source.
Once, (oh must be more than 20 years ago), I bought a CD recorder.
It didn't work when using Linux.
What to do.
Yes. Checking the code and corrected the error.
After recompiling it worked flawless!
Just one example how easy it is to tamper Open Source products.

A massive cyber-attack using tools believed to have been developed by the US National Security Agency has struck organisations around the world.

In the last 24 hours, about 40 companies in Sweden have suffered from the major IT attack according data from the MalwareTech data security blog.
On Monday there is a risk that the virus will spread even more.
And that's only in Sweden!

One of the companies, Sandvik AB is a customer of mine.

North Korea? To get hard cash?

https://arstechnica.com/security/2017/05/virulent-wcry-ransomware-worm-may-have-north-koreas-fingerprints-on-it/
A researcher has found digital fingerprints that tie the WCry ransomware worm that menaced the world on Friday to a prolific hacking operation that previously generated headlines by attacking Sony Pictures, the Bangladesh Central Bank, and South Korean banks.

The link came in a cryptic Twitter message from Neel Mehta, a security researcher at Google. The tweet referenced identical code found in a WCry sample from February and an early 2015 version of Cantopee, a malicious backdoor used by Lazarus Group, a hacking team that has been operating since at least 2011. Previously discovered code fingerprints already tied Lazarus Group to the highly destructive hack that caused hard drives in South Korea to self-destruct in 2013, wiped almost a terabyte's worth of data from Sony Pictures in 2014, and siphoned almost $1 billion from the Bangladesh Central Bank last year by compromising the SWIFT network used to transfer funds.
