If you haven't been checking the tech news, here's the current status. We're rebuilding the Astropulse database. The current rate is an anemic 1.5 million rows per hour. There are 220 million rows left to do, which translates to 140 hours. Then I estimate it will take 24 hours to build the one remaining index necessary to create new work. That adds up to a week. I don't really understand why this is so slow. The disk array should easily handle twice that rate.

Sorry the news couldn't be better. There's always the SETI@home fundraiser at bitcoinutopia. Or you could choose a worthy backup project

How does one set up a "backup project"?

Searching reveals that early incarnations of Boinc allowed a zero for Resource Share which would only DL projects when the >0 projects are empty. With the Boinc 7's, it is reported that 0 for the resource share won't DL at any time.

There are reports of that problem with the recently-released v7.4.27, but it isn't generic to the whole v7 range: the older v7.2.42 - which had 'recommended' status for a long time - is fine with zero resource share backup projects.

Note that the backup project server also has to support 0 resource share: most do, but some older ones may still not allow it.

Well, if zero doesn't work, a small number like 1.0e-10 should.

Men, Thanks for fighting the good fight.
Actually this computer heats the back bedroom. I thought about running Pi. That deemed wasteful, I think I'll wait.

first off, happy thanksgiving and thanks for the update !

My Einstein RAC has surpassed my ever declining Seti credit so I really hope this will be the last "bugs" that will have to be worked out...

Can't use paralellization for database rebuild and reindexing? I'm also curious which database you are using.

Hey, the truth is bad news, but do not worry, we know that everything bad happens soon and end the bad things are solved in the best way. Those who are new to this maybe not master both your knowledge, but we are doing our bit for the project to move forward. Receive unconditional support from Spain and hope that things improve in the best way possible. Take time to stroll around, even though we are few, but our spirit is huge !. A cordialsaludo and good wishes !!

Well, running the Clean Energy Project - Phase 2 meanwhile. Was thinking to see if any "green" projects are available when I'll get a new computer and pick one with a 50/50 share with SETI, but since the new computer thing was delayed for next year that got delayed as well, so this nudged me to at least look for options now :)
Keep up the good work!

Speaking of, assume people here are aware that BOINC 7.4 restores an old pre-v7 bug that made users unable to attach to World Community Grid through the manager, as WCG requires username instead of e-mail and the client (once again) forces e-mail? That should be fixed (again)...

I was one of the people who complained about the bug as my system should have the most up to date copy of BOINC. The said they would rush a fix but so far I only see 7.4.26/27 that still contains the bug. I am reduced to picking up a stray SETI work unit that's few and far between.

There is a workaround. Shouldn't be needed, but it's there and it works.

You mean the Mac BOINC doesn't have a command line option?

Ah, see you posted there too. But also that somebody posted one for Mac apparently.
