The World Health Organization (WHO) now expect the Ebola outbreak in West Africa has claimed more than 10,000 lives. According to the UN organization, the three most severely vulnerable countries - Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia - a total registered 24,350 cases of the disease, and 10,004 people died.
Other known deaths, eight in Nigeria, six in Mali and one in the United States.

It's over a year since the first cases were detected in the current epidemic.
Since health care in the countries concerned have been hard-pressed, and among other things, have difficulty doing vaccination, fear is now a wave of measles, according to a study in the scientific journal Science.

U.S. healthcare worker with Ebola in 'serious' condition: NIH

(Reuters) - An American healthcare worker who tested positive for the Ebola virus while working in Sierra Leone is seriously ill, U.S. health officials said on Friday after evaluating the patient.

The patient arrived in the United States for treatment earlier on Friday and was admitted to the U.S. National Institutes of Health's high-security containment facility in Maryland, the NIH said. The patient is the 11 person with the deadly virus treated in the United States, though the last known case was in November.

Lynn:) In the most Ebola affected countries there already very qualified personal.
They wouldn't let foreigner leave the country if there was the slightest hint if a person was infected with Ebola.
The fight against ebola is not over in West Africa, but one begins to glimpse the light in the tunnel.
According to Professor Hans Rosling, we should not shout hooray yet.

U.S. Ebola Patient in Critical Condition

An American being treated for Ebola at the National Institutes of Health outside Washington, D.C. is now in critical condition, the NIH said Monday.

It's bad news for the health care worker who was infected in Sierra Leone while trying to help fight the West African epidemic, which has sickened more than 24,000 people and killed more than 10,000 of them in a year.

Ebola: Seventh British health worker sent home

The individual worked in the same facility in Sierra Leone as a US volunteer medic who recently caught the virus.

The UK patient currently has no symptoms.

They have been assessed and discharged from the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, but will be kept under close observation, officials say.

Public Health England stressed that the risk to the general public from Ebola remained "very low".

Guinea Ebola cases rise, three doctors infected

(Reuters) - Guinea has suffered a setback in its fight against Ebola with a rash of new cases, including three doctors infected by the virus, with officials blaming weak surveillance and a failure to follow safety procedures.

The outbreak, which began in eastern Guinea more than a year ago and has killed over 10,000 people in the three West African countries worst hit, had appeared to be on the wane, but Guinea has seen cases rise for three consecutive weeks, according to World Health Organization data.
