Very sad news :(((((( Ebola crisis: Sierra Leone's Augustine Baker dies A Sierra Leonean who worked with children orphaned by Ebola has died of the disease himself. Augustine Baker had been admitted to an Ebola treatment centre after becoming ill last week. He had worked for an orphanage run by a UK charity on the outskirts of Sierra Leone's capital, Freetown. Thirty-three children and seven staff at the St George Foundation orphanage have been in quarantine since Mr Baker was diagnosed with the deadly virus. Ebola has killed more than 9,500 people in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-31624149 |

Hope this article is not true. Ebola endemic risk remains in west Africa, scientists warn Scientists are warning of a real risk that the Ebola virus disease could become endemic in west Africa if efforts to end the epidemic slacken as the number of cases falls. All previous outbreaks of Ebola were stamped out within months and the virus disappeared from the human population each time. Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia, however, have been in the grip of the virus for more than a year. While the numbers of cases dropped dramatically in December and early January, they have now plateaued and there are fears that the disease may not be totally eradicated. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/feb/25/ebola-endemic-west-africa-scientists-warn |

Ebola just won't go away. :(( Ebola: Sierra Leone village in lockdown after 31 new cases recorded Efforts to beat Ebola in Sierra Leone have been dealt a setback after 31 new cases were recorded in one village. The community of 500 just outside the town of Makeni has now been put in lockdown by the army amid fears that more could be infected. The World Health Organisation said cases had been linked to one man who escaped quarantine in Freetown to go to his village for treatment from a traditional faith healer. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/feb/27/ebola-sierra-leone-village-lockdown-31-new-cases |

About time. U.S., Liberia kick off trial of Ebola drug ZMapp (Reuters) - U.S. and Liberian researchers have started a clinical trial to test the safety and effectiveness of Mapp Biopharmaceutical Inc's Ebola drug ZMapp, an experimental treatment that has already been tried in a handful of Ebola patients, including two U.S. missionaries. The trial, a joint effort by the Liberian government and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), will be conducted in Liberia and the United States among adults and children infected with Ebola, NIAID said on Friday. http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/02/27/us-health-ebola-drugs-idUSKBN0LV26G20150227 |

Lynn. The Ebola wont go away. But the few who are now being infected are far less than when Hans Roslin was there. And he is convinced that the local health organisations can handle this by them self:) Hans Roslin tweeted yesterday "Ministry of Health in Liberia tells: Last 7 days no new cases of Ebola in the country. Great news, but a backlash is that I missed one case!" About ZMapp. "The trial is expected to conclude in December 2016, although scientists say they may need to be flexible as the Ebola epidemic wanes." We have to do with this until then. http://www.who.int/medicines/ebola-treatment/1st_antigen_RT_Ebola/en/ |

And he is convinced that the local health organisations can handle this by them self:) This was posted a couple of days ago, Janneseti. Maybe you might be right. 99 Ebola cases in past week, nearly two-thirds in Sierra Leone: WHO (Reuters) - Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone reported 99 new confirmed Ebola cases in the week to Feb. 22, down from 128 the previous week, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Wednesday. Sierra Leone accounted for the bulk of the latest infections with 63, signaling a halt to a steep decline recorded from December through January, followed by Guinea with 35 and Liberia just a single case, the U.N. agency said in its weekly report. http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/02/25/us-health-ebola-who-idUSKBN0LT29220150225 |

Don't panic. Leprosy Cases Hit Florida Counties Some people might think of leprosy as a scourge from biblical times, but it still afflicts victims -- and a Florida county is reporting a rare increase in cases, with three people diagnosed in just five months. In the past decade, before the new cases, only one person in Volusia County, Florida, was diagnosed with the disease. http://abcnews.go.com/Health/leprosy-cases-hit-florida-counties/story?id=29258128 |

Don't panic. Yes Lynn, dont panic:) Some of those leprosy cases were infected after interacting with armadillos, a known carrier of the disease. How many armadillos have you met? About Ebola. 101st Airborne Division cases colors, heads home after successful mission in Liberia. http://www.army.mil/article/143540 |

She will file a lawsuit. Don't blame her. Free of Ebola but not fear Nurse Nina Pham to file lawsuit against Presby parent, worries about continued health woes Experimental drugs and special care helped make Nina Pham Ebola free. But today she fears she may never escape the deadly disease. The 26-year-old nurse says she has nightmares, body aches and insomnia as a result of contracting the disease from a patient she cared for last fall at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas. http://res.dallasnews.com/interactives/nina-pham/ |

update. Ebola: Liberia's Johnson Sirleaf urges 'Marshall Plan' Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has called for a "Marshall Plan" for the Ebola-affected countries of West Africa. She was referring to the massive US aid programme for Europe launched after World War Two. Her comments came after Sierra Leone was immediately granted more than $80m (£52m) to help end the Ebola outbreak and recover from its effects. The IMF has pledged a $187m financial aid package for Sierra Leone. Nearly $5bn has been pledged internationally to the Ebola effort, but less than half of the help has materialised. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-31705594 |

Good! Ebola outbreak: Liberia releases last patient Liberia has released its last Ebola patient after going a week without any new cases of the virus, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Beatrice Yardolo, 58, left a Chinese-run treatment centre in the capital Monrovia after two weeks of treatment. Nearly 10,000 people have died from Ebola, the vast majority in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. WHO officials say there were 132 new cases in Guinea and Sierra Leone in the week to 1 March. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-31744616 janneseti, sorry for the sad story. Ebola news is mostly sad. |

Good! I dare not even describe how Ebola patients suffer for a few days. Ebola is worse than the Black Death but not as deadly. The Black Death killed off nearly a third of Europe's population in the Middle Ages. The name Black Death is called that for the formation of blood clots in the blood vessels on the outside looks black. This causes the blood circulation in the fingers and toes deteriorate and eventually ceases. This leads to necrosis. Untreated necrosis leads to gangrene. Hans Rosling 16 hours ago:) Ebola will end as it started, slowly, slowly! See my Factpod https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7APAc-xy0I&index=1&list=PLSrgd_ElrrXcMZ1Nt8hTC2tj1psJ4-K5O The Swedish name for the Black Death is "Digerdöden" literally translated to "A Lot of Dead" Lynn:) Please dont stop watching my video link after the first presentation. There are more Ebola talkings after that one. |

“Fighting disease and fighting poverty go together,†says Agnes Binagwaho, Rwanda’s Minister of Health. “If we just give pills, we will never end disease.†Last known Ebola patient in Liberia cured, but has lost 3 children. As so often, surviving Ebola can be bittersweet. http://mobile.nytimes.com/2015/03/06/world/africa/last-ebola-patient-in-liberia-beatrice-yardolo-discharged-from-treatment.html?_r=1&referrer= |
