Why does it stay so isolated? Looked this up Julie. Ebola has been exported from the three main affected countries in West Africa to five other countries (Nigeria, Senegal, Spain, the USA and Mali). As long as case numbers in West Africa continue to grow exponentially, more exported cases can be expected. |

or maybe this. IMF policies blamed for Ebola spread in West Africa Spending cuts imposed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) may have contributed to the rapid spread of Ebola in three West African states, UK-based researchers say. It had led to "under-funded, insufficiently staffed, and poorly prepared health systems" in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea, they said. The IMF denied the allegation. The deadliest Ebola outbreak ever has so far killed more than 7,300 people, mostly in the three states. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-30575375 |

Sorry for repeating this question. Lack of equipment, equipment failure, haste, and all the usual human frailties. |

Bats? Bats May Have Triggered W. Africa Ebola Outbreak TUESDAY, Dec. 30, 2014 (HealthDay News) -- The Ebola epidemic in West Africa may have started with virus-infected bats, a new study says. Ebola epidemics are "zoonotic" in origin, spreading to humans through contact with bats or larger wildlife, according to the researchers in Germany. But their investigation ruled out larger wildlife as the source of the 2014 outbreak, which began in the Guinean village of Meliandou. http://www.webmd.com/news/20141230/bats-may-have-triggered-ebola-outbreak-in-west-africa-study-says |

She seems to be doing good. Experimental drug for Ebola patient Pauline Cafferkey Ebola patient Pauline Cafferkey is receiving an experimental anti-viral drug and blood from survivors of the disease, doctors in London have said. Specialists at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead, where the nurse is being treated, did not name the drug. Dr Michael Jacobs said Ms Cafferkey was in isolation and was sitting up in bed, talking and reading. http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-30644986 |
