They were killed instantly on contact with the earth. A few may have been killed before that by shrapnel, but it takes a while to bleed out.

Dutch prosecutors investigating the crash of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 believe the aircraft might have been shot down from the air but that a ground-to-air missile attack is more likely, a senior prosecutor said in a German media interview.

The Russian government has always said it has radar imagery proving the fully laden Boeing 777 was shot down by a Ukrainian military aircraft flying in its vicinity, but Western officials have never publicly accepted this scenario.

Putin follows classic recipe for misinformation.

In the case of MH17 was done by Russian media sent out the most incredible story after another about what really happened with MH17. It was NATO that had shot down the aircraft, it was the Ukrainian military, it was actually a CIA operation in which the aircraft filled with frozen bodies before it was overthrown in Ukraine to blame Russia. Perhaps the most amazing version was that it actually moved it across the Indian Ocean lost MH370.

All stories utterly insane but created to represent both the noise and at the same time misleading. Independent Western media must take into account these reports and press releases and evaluate these as well as other information, which both takes time and effort while in some can manage to sow a seed of doubt. At this point at least had the Western media learned of the occupation of the Crimea and appeared more doubtful of the data. Even today, there are many that refer to some of the Russian versions, especially the one where a Ukrainian attack aircraft would have shot the aircraft, which is an absurdity I highlighted in a post on my blog.

The German intelligence service reported last week to the German parliament that it was pro-Russian forces shot down MH17, which has now been made to the German prosecution authorities launched an investigation into war crimes.

Scale is wrong too. Looks like someone didn't realize that the plane shouldn't be bigger just because it is flying. Of course when all you have ever seen is air to air shots but never a space to ground shot!

Some years ago I did get to see an actual "photograph" of a airplane shot from space. Was of a commercial airliner on the downwind leg on approach to LAX. The shot had been blown up to wall size. You realized that the wingspan was only a couple of residential lots. Just as if it had been parked there. Of course that is correct as it makes little difference if the plane is 899 miles from the bird and the ground is 900. So those photos showing a 40 acre wing span are pretty laughable!
